In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across 9 countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it

We’re looking for a Head of Marketing who is both strategic and execution-oriented, capable of building and leading a high-performing marketing function while driving sustainable growth as we scale in Burkina Faso.

In this role, you'll; 

  • Own the local marketing strategy, aligned with business growth targets, market expansion priorities, and brand ambition.
  • Serve as the strategic marketing partner to the General Manager and functional leads (Operations, Sales, Support, Product…).
  • Lead marketing planning, including budget, resource allocation, and ROI accountability.
  • Work closely with the group marketing team to align growth, product and brand strategies for your market with global direction.
  • Lead and supervise full-funnel campaigns for Burkina Faso across ATL, BTL, and Social Media.
  • Create clear and actionable processes and documentation that can guide cross-functional teams in successful project delivery, from ideation to deployment.
  • Lead market intelligence efforts (consumer insights, market analysis, brand health, channel performance).

Key details

  • Location: Ouagadou with travel upcountry (about once per month). 
  • Work authorization in Burkina Faso is required. 
  • This is a permanent position.

Requirements

  • Degree in relevant fields (marketing, communication, sales, business development, management…). 
  • At least 12 years of marketing experience, including at least 5 years in leadership roles with team management and budget ownership.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale, multi-channel marketing strategies with measurable commercial impact.
  • Experience managing significant marketing budgets and demonstrating strong ROI discipline.
  • Fluent in French, English.
