Role Overview

The Head of Marketing Strategy & Planning will be responsible for defining the PokerStars Marketing strategy for the Southern European Region. Becoming an expert in the dynamics, performance and ambitions of each market, the role will set the overall marketing strategy and will oversee the effective execution of that strategy. Reporting to the SEU Marketing Director for SEU, this is a senior role for someone with a proven track record of translating commercial strategy into a marketing strategy and of delivering successful marketing campaigns.

This role will require the candidate to work closely with and build key relationships with core teams including Commercial and wider Marketing functions including Media, Engagement & Insight. A key member of the Marketing LT, the role will help to set the overall focus and priorities for the wider SEU marketing team in the form of a clear marketing strategy and 90 day plans for France, Spain and Portugal. Working closely with regional commercial teams, the role will build a solid understanding of the revenue drivers & key product propositions across our Casino, Poker and Sports products. You will then translate the commercial ambitions and objectives of each market into an executable marketing plan, informed and developed by market & customer insight.

Supported by a team of managers, the team will be responsible for bringing innovation to our marketing plans and ensure the effective and efficient delivery campaigns through brilliant creative and fit for purpose media. The role will deliver clear, digestible and informed comms plans for each of our key initiatives and will form the basis of guiding the wider SEU Marketing teams of their priorities and objectives. You will also be responsible for ensuring the successful performance of the plan and should be able to identify changes & pivots to key priorities with marketing pillars and initiatives.

Crucially, the role will oversee the development and continuation of our brand positionings, ensuring they are truly integrated and remain innovative across all our marketing channels.

Initially the role will also be responsible for establishing clear ways of working including setting planning expectations within marketing and with wider functions, especially commercial.

The ideal candidate will be a senior marketeer with a track record of developing marketing plans and comms planning. Extensive knowledge of the various marketing subject areas and strong commercial competence including proposition development, brand  strategy and budget management are required. The candidate should be able to evidence strong leadership, experience of team development and the ability to expertly communicate and translate complex data and analytics to key collaborators. Experience in or an interest in the online gambling industry is preferable. A native or near fluent knowledge of French of Spanish would be beneficial.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and develop the marketing strategy for SEU
  • Work closely with the SEU Commercial team to convert commercial strategy into a regional marketing & comms plans, complete with key pillars, prioritisation & budget recommendations
  • Manage a team of mangers  to ensure plans are in line with the wider regional strategy and are delivering as per our commercial and business targets
  • Support SEU Marketing Director to form a strong Marketing Leadership team & build a clear strategy for SEU Marketing
  • Ensure the integration of our brand propositions, TOV and look and feel across all our customer touchpoints
  • Establish clear processes and ways of working for the SEU brand strategy & creative team with support from the senior project manager
  • Support fellow Marketing functions including Engagement and Media to develop specific strategies for their areas
  • Oversee & report on market trends, competitor advances, communicating clear recommendations to collaborators based on insight
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing Insight to track and report on the performance of the marketing strategy, bringing together key insights and data from different teams to drive optimisations and recommendations 
  • Oversee compliance and regulatory information for the region, ensuring marketing functions are aware of existing and new rules & that our marketing is always compliant
  • Lead representative for SEU Marketing forums on regional topics, working with teams such as product, compliance and legal to build expert knowledge of the region within the team
  • Support briefing and execution of SEU plans and initiatives and work closely with Project Management team to ensure efficient planning and execution across teams
  • Work closely with supporting functions including PSN & external agencies where relevant

What you’ll bring:

  • Vast experience in a marketing, advertising or related role.
  • Experience of commercial areas and high collaboration with different functions highly beneficial
  • Extensive experience of marketing, brand and comms strategy
  • Ability to lead and develop a team
  • Proactive and able to work independently
  • Great team mate with strong communication skills who can bring together different parts of the business and align them to one plan
  • Experience of proactively looking for innovation in marketing and seeking new growth opportunities,
  • Highly proficient in preparing reports, plans and competitor analysis including strong ability in data analysis and translation into insight
  • Highly organised, structured, and accurate. Able to follow guidance in the utmost detail
  • Strong understanding of brand advertising & thrive in a results-driven environment
  • Knowledge of or an interest in online poker, casino and sportsbook preferable
  • Fluent or strong knowledge of French, Spanish or Portuguese desirable
