The Head of Marketing Services is responsible for defining and leading this approach. The role sets the strategic campaign framework, establishes clear governance and ensures that integrated, multi-channel campaigns are prioritised, planned and delivered in line with business objectives. Working in close partnership with BCM colleagues, senior business stakeholders and international partners, the role provides senior oversight and accountability for campaign performance. It brings clarity to priorities, ensures alignment across markets and functions, drives high standards of execution, and embeds a performance-led culture where campaigns are evaluated rigorously and continuously optimised for impact.

The Brand, Marketing and Communications team is a fun and integrated team of motivated and dedicated professionals whose role is to promote, protect and enhance the reputation of Markel International, wherever it operates. In line with the business’s ambitious profitable growth targets and its vision to put Markel ‘on the map’, the Brand, Marketing and Communications team restructured at the end of 2025, aligning itself to a new international structure and the delivery of key business objectives. The investment in the team is testament to the value the business places in the Brand, Marketing and Communications function and the key role it will play in achieving its objectives.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Co-ordinate the delivery of integrated, multi-channel Brand, Communications & Marketing (BCM) campaigns, ensuring effective alignment with strategic business objectives, audience needs and the overarching BCM plan.
  • Lead end-to-end campaign workflow, from intake and briefing through to execution, optimisation, measurement and evaluation, ensuring smooth delivery across all stages.
  • Partner closely with the C&M business partners, BCM colleagues, senior business stakeholders and external agencies and partners to translate strategic briefs into clear, actionable plans, aligning resources and timelines to deliver effectively.
  • Act as the central point of coordination and delivery accountability for all BCM activity, ensuring clear objectives, ownership, timelines and governance across all contributors.
  • Lead, develop and inspire the marketing services team, setting clear direction, building capability and ensuring high standards of delivery across all activity.
  • Oversee the integration of brand, digital, PR, internal communications and events to deliver cohesive, audience-focused campaigns across all relevant channels.
  • Co-ordinate and evolve the campaign calendar and forward plan, ensuring visibility, prioritisation and balanced workload management across the team, with appropriate prioritisation and pacing of activity.
  • Engage with International communications and marketing stakeholders to ensure global alignment, effective asset sharing and consistent implementation.
  • Define and embed campaign measurement frameworks, KPIs and reporting standards, regularly evaluating effectiveness, return on investment and contribution to business objectives.
  • Champion the use of data, insight and audience intelligence to inform campaign strategy, segmentation and continuous optimisation.
  • Ensure all BCM activity adheres to brand governance, regulatory requirements and reputational standards, acting as a senior guardian of brand integrity.
  • Identify and implement improvements to campaign operating models, tools and processes to increase efficiency, effectiveness and scalability across BCM.

Key Skills:

  • Have significant experience leading integrated, multi-channel BCM campaigns at a strategic level, with clear evidence of business impact.
  • Be comfortable operating at senior level, partnering with executive stakeholders and influencing strategic direction.
  • Demonstrate experience leading and developing high-performing marketing or campaign teams.
  • Possess strong critical thinking skills, able to translate business objectives into clear, audience-focused campaign strategies.
  • Exhibit a strong understanding of brand governance and how to apply guidelines consistently across sophisticated or regulated environments.
  • Use data, insight and metrics with confidence to shape BCM strategy, optimise performance and demonstrate return on investment.
  • Have experience coordinating campaign activity across multiple countries or regions, balancing central alignment with local flexibility.
