Your new role
Reporting to QBE’s Group Treasurer, the Head of Group Capital Strategy & Ratings plays a critical role in shaping and executing QBE’s Group-wide capital strategy to support sustainable growth, capital efficiency and shareholder returns. The role influences material strategic and commercial decisions across the balance sheet, including reinsurance, third‑party capital and capital optimisation, operating at the centre of Executive and Board‑level decision‑making.
A core accountability is leading QBE’s relationships with global credit rating agencies and key regulators, ensuring outcomes are commercially sound, well‑governed and aligned to shareholder objectives.
In this role you will lead the Group Capital Strategy & Ratings team and partner closely across Finance, Risk, Actuarial, Investments and regional leadership to assess complex initiatives and provide high‑quality analysis, governance and decision support. The role requires effective engagement with senior executives and divisional leaders, navigating complex internal and external stakeholder dynamics while ensuring QBE’s strategic capital agenda is delivered with clarity, discipline and commercial rigour.
Key accountabilities include:
Group capital strategy and execution: Set and deliver the multi-year Group capital management plan, maintaining capital metrics within targets while supporting growth and returns.
Strategic decision support / transactions: Evaluate non‑standard transactions and initiatives (e.g., M&A, divestitures, reinsurance, partnerships, portfolio optimisation) through robust governance, assessment and financial impact analysis.
Credit rating agency leadership: Own the commercial relationships and engagement plan with major rating agencies (e.g., S&P, Moody’s, Fitch, AM Best), supporting ratings and outlook objectives.
Third‑party / alternative capital: Identify and progress capital‑optimising initiatives with external capital partners (e.g., pension funds, private equity, sovereign wealth).
Executive & Board reporting: Coordinate Finance submissions into Group Board and committee forums, including review and challenge, and prepare high-quality CFO reporting materials.
Enterprise partnership: Build strong relationships across geographies to strengthen capital forecasting, liquidity and balance sheet planning, and continuously improve related processes.
About you
This is an opportunity for a commercially-minded leader with capital and transaction expertise, comfortable operating at executive and board level and representing QBE externally.

Strategic capital leader; deep expertise in capital management, global regulatory and rating agency frameworks
Exceptional communicator; influence confidently internal and external stakeholders on complex issues
Trusted relationship builder; proven ability to establish, maintain strong internal and external credibility

Previous experience with insurance will be highly regarded
