The role of Head Finance Business Partner Oncology, for Germany is an opportunity to join the Europe One Finance community and drive performance across our region. Germany is GSK’s biggest market in Europe and a top three market globally, operating in an innovation-driven environment. Strategic priorities include capitalizing on 15 upcoming launches, expanding real-world evidence and clinical footprint, accelerating digital and AI-enabled commercial excellence, and deepening partnerships with policymakers and healthcare stakeholders.
In this role, you will act as the Commercial Finance Head for the German Oncology Business Unit, partnering closely with the Business Unit Head to drive sustainable growth, shape strategic priorities, and support the successful delivery of a robust launch and pipeline agenda. As a key member of the Oncology Leadership Team, you will lead strategy development and decision-making through high-quality financial insights, including portfolio evolution, pipeline progression, and strategic resource allocation.
This role operates at a strategic level, setting the financial direction for German Oncology. The role owns end-to-end financial decision-making with material P&L impact and acts as the primary Finance interface to senior stakeholders, commercial teams and regional finance, providing strategic financial input, identifying opportunities and driving performance. Your mission is to be a true business partner, providing a strong voice in challenging and influencing decision-making. You will be responsible for sales forecasting and SG&A management to ensure profitability and support GSK’s commitment to growth and innovation.
Driving Brand Performance
P&L Management: Full understanding and accountability for the Oncology BU P&L and headcount, acting as a core member of the Oncology BU leadership team.
Performance Analysis: Lead cross-functional monthly performance reviews (MPR) and perform variance analysis of business unit results (sales, brand profit, KPIs), identifying performance gaps and proposing corrective actions.
Strategic Planning: Lead strategic portfolio and brand analysis, and scenario planning, to influence and support brand planning and business decisions for the therapy area LT
Resource Allocation: Drive the annual budget setting process for the cross functional therapy area team, with focus on strategic resource allocation and proactive identification of risks and opportunities. Support the commercial team in tracking their budgets and seeking opportunities for SG&A optimisation.
Problem solving: Proactive approach to problem solving within the business, seeking to understand depth of situation and propose potential action/mitigation plans
Strategic Accountability: Own Oncology investment choices and resource trade-offs with multi-year and material P&L implications, providing clear enterprise-level recommendations.
Financial Forecasting & Reporting
Forecasting (Core Commercial Cycle): Partner with commercial, supply chain, and insights teams to deliver monthly DRM, annual plans, and soft-landing estimates, aligning and challenging assumptions and identifying risks and opportunities.
Launch Support: Support launch forecasts for pipeline opportunities, utilizing data sources and scenario planning to input on volume assumptions and pricing discussions
Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely financial analysis at month-end, providing insights to analyse performance and support financial entries.
Strategic Accountability: Act as single point of accountability for the Germany Oncology financial outlook, ensuring alignment with Global Franchise and Europe Finance expectations.
Pricing Optimization & Market Dynamics
Pricing Governance: Partner with Market Access and other experts to support pricing approval governance; provide recommendations for pricing decision and challenge pricing through sensitivity analysis to optimize profitability and access
Market Analysis: Understand overall market dynamics, relative market positioning of products, market access situation, and future trends, working closely with the Commercial Insights Partner.
Strategic Accountability: Lead financial decision support in a highly complex and regulated German payer environment (AMNOG, G‑BA), balancing growth ambition, access strategy, compliance, and reputational risk.
Investment & Growth Opportunities
ROI Analysis: Model investment and growth opportunities to support decision making, identifying potential opportunities to optimise resource allocation using ROI.
Scenario Planning: Lead scenario planning to maximize resource use and support the business in making investment decisions.
Margin & Cashflow Enhancement: Deliver margin enhancement initiatives through innovative cost control and utilise both internal and external benchmarking for best in-class cost management.
Project Management & External Coordination
Project Management: Work on ad hoc projects, supporting the Finance Director and leadership team with management presentations and critical insights
Ad Hoc Analysis: Conduct ad hoc financial and business modelling to support the Oncology business unit head and other stakeholders
External Coordination: Act as the point of contact for finance to key external strategic partners, tax, treasury, and audit to protect GSK’s interests.
Data-Driven Decision Making & Digital Tools
Leverage MMM (Marketing Mix Modelling) insights to optimize promotional investments and resource allocation
Use Genie and advanced analytics platforms for forecasting, opportunity identification, and performance deep-dives.
Embed data-driven decision making across brand planning, MPR, forecasting, and strategic discussions.
Drive adoption of digital tools implemented across Oncology and Europe Finance, ensuring teams use data products effectively
Promote automation, AI-powered insights, and digital workflows to simplify processes and enhance decision quality
Finance or business degree and/or Professional qualification (e.g. ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CPA, MBA or international equivalent).
5 years’ experience in financial roles
Experience in financial modelling, scenario planning and investment appraisal for decision-making recommendations in complex business challenges. Demonstrated experience in financial planning/ forecasting, including understanding of financial systems and processes (CERPS, Bison, CF/CCC, VISTA)
Ability to translate data into strategic recommendations and embed data-driven decision-making behaviours
Breadth of experience across different business areas, contributing to an enterprise level perspective
Demonstrated ability to influence and shape senior leadership decisions with material strategic and financial impact, building credibility and challenging constructively across global, regional, and LOC stakeholders
Experience operating effectively with senior stakeholders in complex, cross functional, matrix environments
Proven ability to lead and drive change in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with competing priorities
Demonstrated risk management, process improvement, and project management skills
Experience within the pharmaceutical industry or similarly highly regulated environments
Experience leading digital transformation across finance or commercial teams, including automation, AI-enabled insights, and adoption of advanced analytics platforms (e.g., MMM, Genie).
