Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities/Head Swim Coach, the Head Cross Country, and Track Coach is responsible for the total organization, administration and supervision of the Track and Field/Cross Country programs, recruitment of all athletes, and assisting with the internal operations of the athletic department. The head coach is responsible for ensuring compliance with university, conference and NCAA policies and procedures.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, prepare, and lead all team practices and contests.

  • Recruit and evaluate prospective student‑athletes

  • Support student-athletes by connecting them with appropriate academic advising, personal guidance, and athletic training resources.

  • Prepare budget recommendations for the program and oversee program finances such as revenue and expenditures.

  • Manage equipment and facility needs, ensuring safety standards, proper upkeep, and inventory control.

  • Develop a comprehensive fund-raising program and an alumni development plan.

  • Oversee the selection and supervision of part-time coaches and student employees.

  • Assist in coordinating all departmental activities at the university, including camps, clinics, and field rentals.

  • Maintain appropriate records and files, and prepare correspondence in the course of official duties.

  • Archive and dispose of records and documents in accordance with State of NJ requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with NJAC and NCAA regulations and by-laws in the implementation of recruiting and competitive play activities across all sport teams.  

  • Coordinate transfer eligibility for all incoming student-athletes; participate in team eligibility and appeal meetings.

  • Coordinate and manage team rosters and confirmation of participation forms. 

  • Attend and participate in departmental, conference and university-wide meetings related to duties and responsibilities.

  • Serve at departmental and university conferences along with regional and national committees as requested.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in sports management, physical education, communications or a related field.

  • A minimum of three years of professional work experience coaching student athletes at the collegiate level.

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; particularly as they apply to track and cross country, recruiting and student athlete eligibility.

  • Knowledge of USCAA rules and regulations; particularly as they apply to track and cross country, recruiting and student athlete eligibility.

  • Ability to work an irregular schedule, including evenings, weekends and occasional holidays.

 

PREFERRED:

  • Experience as a college student athlete.

  • Head coaching at the collegiate level.

Salary Range

$73,899.90-$77,593.35 Annually
