Harness Designer- 6 month contract

Temporary role (6-month contract)

This position requires the individual to be able to design electrical harness drawings across the Fire & Safety product line.  The technician will work with multiple engineering disciplines to ensure products meet functional and reliability requirements for mission-critical applications.  The successful candidate will perform a combination of hands-on testing as well as trouble shooting, procedure execution, quality, and project management activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designing and developing wiring harness systems, including schematic creation, harness architecture, and layout
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary team members to ensure compatibility with other electrical and mechanical components
  • Documenting design specifications, drawings, installation instructions, and other system-related information
  • Interface with engineering, R&D, product management, quality, manufacturing, outside suppliers, and customers.
  • Analyze requirements and test results and propose solutions.
  • Respond to internal or external technical problems and pursue to resolution.
  • Perform functional system testing on components to evaluate their performance.
  • Perform Quality Checks on production units.
  • Create test procedure and work instruction documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Microsoft Office Proficiency
  • Ability to design and build electrical harnesses.
  • Can troubleshoot system level electrical/mechanical problems.
  • Can read and understand electrical/mechanical schematics
  • Ability to perform and review test procedures.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Solidworks, or other equivalent software to design schematics.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering concepts and safety standards
  • Proficient in using hand tools.
  • Ability to create Bills of Materials.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of experience as a draftsman, designer, or other similar role
  • Experience in automotive, electronics, aerospace, or industrial products is a plus.
  • WHMA Certifications a plus.
  • EVT Technician Certification a plus.
  • Hands-on experience solving product issues with new and existing designs.
  • Multi-tasking and project management experience.
  • JDE Experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of Fire industry a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The employee is frequently required to walk and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. Some testing may involve stationary vehicles such as a Fire Truck or Ambulance.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate typical of an office with occasional work requiring hearing and eye protection.
