Business Unit Overview

This position is part of Novanta’s Synrad business unit. Synrad has come to be recognized as a leader in the development of sealed CO2 lasers and electro-optics technologies. Based on our patented “All Metal” tube technology, there are now well over 250,000 Synrad lasers in use throughout the world. Synrad lasers are used in a wide variety of industrial applications, including marking, coding, engraving, cutting, and converting on a wide range of target materials.

Summary

This role is to be responsible for the design and development of electronics hardware.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced electronic control circuits, RF/VHF power modules, and power electronics for high-performance laser systems.
  • Conduct detailed circuit analysis and optimize designs through effective component selection and performance evaluation, including circuit simulation.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including schematics, PCB layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Design, develop, and execute lab setups for testing and measurement of electronic components and integrated systems; analyze results to validate and improve performance.
  • Support the development, refinement, and troubleshooting of electronic circuits used in Synrad laser products, ensuring high reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders to align on technical requirements and solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and suppliers to support product development and integration.

General Tasks

  • Adhere strictly to all quality, occupational safety, and environmental standards in daily work.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronics Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate industrial experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Solid understanding of analog, digital, and embedded electronics design principles.
  • Proficient in schematic capture and PCB layout; experience with Altium Designer is a plus.
  • Strong hands-on skills in electronics prototyping, soldering, and using lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, and RF test equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to team efforts.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Familiarity with EMC and safety compliance standards is desirable.
  • Experience with FPGA-based hardware design is a plus.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
