Job Summary
 

The Hardware Engineer role within Novanta Intelligent Motion Systems (IMS) focuses on the development of robust, highperformance electronics for integrated stepper motor solutions. The position involves systemlevel design of motor drives, control electronics, power management, and communication interfaces for industrial and medical motion applications. Working closely with crossfunctional teams and customers, the role supports both standard platforms and customized solutions from concept through production, with a strong emphasis on reliability, manufacturability, and longterm product performance.

The selected engineer will be focused on collaborating with the operations team in quality and operational improvements of all the hardware designs of our stepper motors product line. The selected engineer will also collaborate in the design, implementation and verification of the new designs. The position requires good hardware skills but also a deep understanding of design for manufacturing and reliability.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the hardware running the IMS integrated motors.
  • Design new and redesign existing electronic circuits, including schematic and layout.
  • Conduct detailed circuit analysis and optimize designs through effective component selection and performance evaluation, including circuit simulation.
  • Hands-on new hardware board bring-up, system debugging, and optimization.
  • Review and improve external documentation (Product manuals, Datasheets, etc.).
  • Improve internal documentation (Architecture, Detailed Design, etc.).
  • Define, in conjunction with the Quality Assurance team, the Test and Verification Plans.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders to align technical requirements and solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and suppliers to support product development and integration.

Required Experience and Education

  • Ms o PhD in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering, or technical related discipline
  • Minimum working experience 2 year

Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with Electronic circuit technology design and assembly processes
  • Background in electrical power applications
  • Experience with PCB / PCA manufacturing processes
  • Experience in electronics verificaton and validation
  • Ability to write technical documents such as assembly instructions, test procedures, and test and analysis reports
  • Altium Designer proven experience
  • Fluent written and spoken Spanish and English.

  • Experience in Version Control Systems (Git, SVN)
  • General Motion control or robotics knowledge (motors types, feedbacks, controls, etc.).
  • Industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, CANOpen)
  • Experience in Certification Process (CE, UL, Safety, etc.)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Travel Requirements           

  • Occasionally travel as needed (domestically and internationally) to customers for support and/or installation.
