In Sky Group Ethics & Compliance, our purpose is to oversee enterprise level risk management through policies, procedures, systems and controls - assisting our colleagues in preventing, detecting and remediating issues; and provide the business with advice as subject matter experts in Compliance-owned risk areas. As our team and the programme grows and evolves, this role is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial part in delivering on that purpose as the team member responsible for leading escalated integrity investigations conducted under the Sky Listens programme.

This position requires close collaboration and proactive partnering with senior commercial stakeholders, as well as those who hold enterprise equivalent roles, and other risk management or business support functions, including across the range of Sky’s territories.

What you’ll do:

As the Head Counsel, Investigations, you will:

  • Lead the conduct of escalated integrity and human rights investigations, advising directly on and managing team members or external providers on matters identified through the Sky Listens programme in partnership with Group Risk and the People team
  • Ensure effective, concise and timely reporting to senior management and enterprise stakeholders in relation to the progress and outcomes of integrity investigations
  • Partner with HR Legal to align on the management of fair employment investigations, providing support and direction on particularly sensitive or high-risk matters
  • Deliver investigations insights into the Group Ethics & Compliance programme through case specific business and people recommendations, trend analyses, legal and regulatory developments, industry best practice, and internal and external horizon scanning
  • Provide advice and strategic oversight on the governance of the Sky Listens programme, proactively identifying opportunities for and supporting the delivery of policy and process enhancements, quality standards and consistency as well as advising on the responsible use of AI tools to support investigative processes
  • Drive Ethics & Compliance training for personnel within the Sky Listens programme regarding current and emerging compliance risks and trends, as well as supporting awareness raising for the programme for our employees more generally
  • Manage compliance oversight of and provide legal advice on external disclosures in relation to integrity investigations and those requiring Group Ethics & Compliance approvals
  • Join the leadership team within the Legal directorate, contributing to making Sky a great place to work
  • Collaborate with team members on Group-wide Ethics & Compliance driven initiatives, including risk assessment, policies and procedures, training and communications, and third-party risk management to identify potential enhancements
  • As required by wider GE&C team priorities, advise on specific business projects and transactions with an ethics & compliance impact, delivering solutions which mitigate legal risk for Sky whilst maintaining commercial flexibility.
  • Travel as required

What you’ll bring:

  • UK legal qualification or equivalent relevant experience with deep experience of conducting and managing investigations relating to ethics & compliance (including white collar or financial crime matters), whether in private practice, in-house or a combination
  • A track record of collaboration, problem-solving and developing solutions to complex legal issues in a complex multi-national business or highly regulated sector
  • Superior influencing skills with extensive experience of advising at the most senior level and managing multiple stakeholders with varying priorities in different territories, in a collaborative, positive and proactive manner
  • Experience of working in a heavily matrixed organization with an understanding of cultural characteristics/differences for successful delivery of outcomes
  • A strong team player, ability to manage and motivate a team and provide a positive lead for others
  • An ability to operate in a fast-paced commercial environment, demonstrating flexibility/adaptability to manage a workload comprising multiple wide-ranging matters and conflicting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, with an ability to adapt communication style to a variety of stakeholders across the business in a way which builds trust and confidence
  • Ability to manage own workstreams in an agile and commercial way, leveraging your experience to deliver outcomes-focussed solutions.
  • Other languages are helpful but not essential, required is the ability to understand and relate to different cultures
