Group Director, Media Planning / Chief of Staff

Overview:
 We are looking to add a Group Director, Media Planning / Chief of Staff to our team for a CPG Client with dentsu X. You will join a supportive team and work with a Client that sees us as a true partner. This is a senior leadership role, reporting directly to our EVP, Client Solutions and Planning, and requires regular in-person presence at dentsu’s New York, NY office and Client office in White Plains, NY.

Key Responsibilities

Media Planning & Leadership

  • Serve as the senior-most planning leader, with depth of experience across all channels and customer journey touchpoints.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Managing Directors/Business Leads.
  • Demonstrate expertise in both traditional and digital media, including social and influencer channels.
  • Coordinate with multi-channel teams to design modern, strategic, and integrated media plans across TV, CTV, Video, Social, Programmatic, and Audio.
  • Oversee and communicate directly with Clients regarding questions and media plans.
  • Ensure all Client deliverables, materials, and reports are delivered timely and error-free.
  • Analyze competitive landscapes, pull reports using agency tools, and compile actionable insights.
  • Develop and maintain innovative testing frameworks and roadmaps aligned with Client and agency vision.
  • Foster a team culture centered on testing and innovation.
  • Guide media channel selection and proactively identify new opportunities.

Global Operations & Collaboration

  • Lead global relationships, integrating US and global activations, and drive collaboration and learning (e.g., sharing best practices, connecting learning agendas, staying current on local hot topics and direction).
  • Oversee global deliverables and ensure compliance (e.g., monthly Media Tool updates, Project Force, ad hoc tracking).
  • Facilitate a culture of cross-sharing within dentsu, bringing knowledge and learning from other Clients to CLIENT and vice versa.

Business & Account Operations

  • Understand and manage priorities to ensure quality outputs.
  • Be a go-to resource for the dentsu team and Client for rising issues, providing support where extra hands or opinions are needed.
  • Lead the onboarding process for the Client account, ensuring smooth and effective starts for new team members.
  • Oversee and support specialty projects as needed (e.g., QBR development, DEIB support, Online Investment Partnerships/JBP Strategy, Upfront, Ways of Working/C]ient relationship management).
  • Manage quarterly/monthly internal finance reporting (e.g., profitability growth, Salesforce updates, KAP) and weekly portfolio status.

CLIENT Operations

  • Oversee delivery of data dumps (GMP, LDA, CEM, Competitive, MBD).
  • Manage needs tied to annual LMA/PRIP.
  • Support dentsu leadership in reassessing and refreshing staffing needs.

Client Relationship & Workstreams

  • Oversee Client relationship workstreams, supporting the Client Way of Working by establishing a strong understanding of day-to-day operations across the account.
  • Support maintenance of TRR and Agency/Client evaluations.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a large agency setting, ideally within the CPG vertical.
  • 10+ years of media planning and buying experience in TV, CTV, Social, and digital landscapes.
  • 5+ years of experience leading multiple levels of direct reports in a large agency setting.
  • Comfortable working with budgets and numbers, with a strong understanding of mathematical concepts.

Additional Information

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $136,000–$219,650. Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law.
