Job Summary:

Bucknell University is currently accepting applications for a Groundskeeper I or II. As a member of the essential services team, the successful candidate will perform general landscape and grounds maintenance functions, including: turf grass management, refuse collection, snow removal, event support, pest control, and pressure washing. The Groundskeeper II may also serve as a team lead on projects with a team of other Groundskeepers and/or in coordination with other trades.

Job Duties:

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports to the Grounds Crew Leader

Work Setting/Schedule

  • On-campus

  • Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm

  • Essential services staff are required to report to work during times of campus closure or emergencies

What You Will Do

As a Groundskeeper I or II, you will:

  • Maintain athletic fields and campus turf (mowing, aerating, seeding/sodding, irrigation, lining, pest/disease control)

  • Install and maintain landscaping (planting, pruning, watering, weeding, mulching)

  • Collect and transport trash and recycling

  • Service equipment (sharpen blades, replace filters/belts, maintain irrigation systems)

  • Assist with event setup/breakdown and moving furniture

  • Operate equipment (chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, tractors, backhoes, forklifts)

  • Perform snow removal (plowing, shoveling)

  • The job descriptions listed responsibilities and tasks are not exhaustive. Additional non-essential tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.    

Groundskeeper II will also:

  • Lead grounds projects and coordinate with team/trades

  • Develop material lists and project schedules

  • Recommend construction methods, details, and materials

  • Maintain pesticide certification

What You Will Bring

Required

Groundskeeper I

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Up to 1 year of landscaping/equipment experience

  • Valid driver’s license

Groundskeeper II

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 2+ years of landscaping and equipment experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Pesticide certification

Preferred, But Not Required

Groundskeeper I

  • Vocational/technical training or degree

  • 2+ years of landscaping and equipment experience

Groundskeeper II

  • Vocational/technical training or degree

  • 4+ years of landscaping and equipment experience

  • Commercial driver’s license

Physical Requirements

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions

  • Frequent noise and exposure to machinery, vehicles, heights, electricity, and chemicals

  • Lift 50+ lbs regularly

  • Exposure to dust, fumes, and respiratory irritants

  • Frequent physical activity (bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling)

Pay Rate

Groundskeeper I: $16.00 - $19.45

Groundskeeper II: $17.16 - $21.45

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy. 

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.
