The Grounds Utilities Plumber Assistant, under direction participates in maintaining, repairing, and replacing minor and major piping of large diameter size on campus water systems. Primarily systems pertaining to irrigation and landscape systems.
Service Responsibilities
Assists in maintaining and repairing University Irrigations systems
Assists in constructing new water irrigation system and infrastructure.
Assists other Irrigation technicians on a daily basis
Assists in the inspection of backflows, valves, pumps, irrigation controllers, and other irrigation equipment.
Assists in grounds operations as needed. Work may include mowing, cutting, weed eating, tree trimming, blowing, landscape or haul off.
Able to assist University Plumbers as needed
Assists in the repair and maintenance of water and sewer pipes and interior restroom fixtures
Completes all task assigned by supervisor.
Communication
Reports broken and inoperable equipment to Grounds Manager or Irrigation License Technician.
Reports inventory/supply needs to Grounds Manager or Irrigation License Technician.
Monitors and reports water leaks to Grounds Manager or Irrigation License Technician.
Training
Receives training with Irrigation systems and equipment
Receives training with Plumbing systems and equipment
Participates is skills development
Other Duties
Participates with on-call duties for evenings, weekends and special events.
Acts as service responders during emergency, weather, and catastrophic events.

Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience – One year of related experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Valid Drivers License
Obtain Irrigation License within two years
Obtain Irrigation License within two years
Ability to effectively communicate
Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat
Ability to move light, medium or heavy objects with assistance.
Ability to work in a lift and at different heights
May require traveling to various campus locations to maintain and repair systems

This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends
This positions working hours can be described as shift work

This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.

A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee.
