Job Description:

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility A320 is looking for a Ground Test Inspector to join our Manufacturing Department based in Mobile, AL.

As an Avionics Test Technician (Ground Test Performer), you will play a critical role in the Final Assembly Line by planning, executing, and validating aircraft systems tests. You will be responsible for demonstrating that our aircraft systems conform to design specifications through the Airbus Test System. When deviations occur, you will be the frontline expert initiating actions to isolate, document, and eliminate issues to ensure peak safety and performance.

Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

Execute Avionics and System Testing        80%

  • Prepare the aircraft and workstation surroundings for the test on various avionics and systems, in a safe environment.

  • Perform function tests on all systems (flight controls, navigation, passenger entertainment, etc.) in parallel to the assembly of the aircraft.

  • Prepare, coordinate, and perform troubleshooting, with responsible engineering teams, on aircraft systems and test system environments.

  • Organize documentation of any non-conformity in the SAP NC system and initiate associated retests (Repeat Test Instruction) after finalization of rework.

  • Clarify and improve test instructions and test systems with appropriate engineering teams.

  • Training others:

  • Ensure the safety of the People and Aircraft during all phases of production.

  • Review planned work activities and perform Safety Risk Analysis.

  • Ensure the aircraft is configured to facilitate safe work activities.

  • Document and track aircraft configuration and testing status.

  • Participate in problem solving when a safety risk is identified to understand the risk and the impact.

  • Daily planning and coordination of testing with other functions:

  • Track status of Non-Conformities that impact testing.

  • Identify problems internally in order to continuously improve the “On Time On Quality” production process.

  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.

Education:

  • Required:

  • High School Diploma/ GED

  • The ability to successfully complete the following trainings provided by Airbus after recruitment:

  • Health & Safety

  • General aircraft familiarization

  • Quality Training

  • Preferred:

    • Training from a vocational school or previous employer in the use of application tools and in application techniques.

Experience:

  • Required:

  • 5 years aviation experience in avionics, systems, or Cabin systems. 

  • 2 years minimum experience as an Aircraft Avionics Technician with a focus on aircraft systems (electrical preferred).

  • 2 years minimum of experience in trouble shooting on aircraft systems.

  • Knowledge of station safety, quality (clean as you go / Foreign Object Debris) and OSHA regulations.

  • Keep tools and support equipment in safe operational conditions at all times.

  • Basic avionic troubleshooting knowledge.

  • Experience with tools used to identify and isolate electrical and data failures.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Able to enter, generate and retrieve information using a computer. 

  • Travel Required: 5% Domestic and International.

  • Authorized to Work in the US.

  • Preferred:

  • A320 or Airbus aircraft experience.

  • Avionics or Cabin system experience in a Production or Maintenance environment.

  • Basic avionic troubleshooting knowledge.

  • Experience with tools used to identify and isolate electrical and data failures.

 

Physical Requirements:

● Vision: Able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.

Hearing: Able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.

Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. 

Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts. 

Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. 

Lifting: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. 

Pushing/Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. 

Sitting:  Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on a computer.

Squatting/Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. 

Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the  production floor. 

Travel/Mobility: Able to travel independently and at short notice. 

Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
