The Superintendent is responsible for managing the onsite stevedoring operations for the Vancouver terminal operations. This involves direct supervision of the Foremen and Longshore on the vessels. The Superintendents will also deal directly with Viterra terminal staff and logistics personnel.
What You'll do
Supervise and coordinate activities of Foremen/Longshore workers engaged in loading of vessels.
In coordination with Viterra terminal Supervisors and Logistics group assesse organization priorities in sequence of loading operations, taking into consideration cargo space available, shipping instructions, and knowledge of cargo stowage.
Determine the number of personnel required for loading vessels on a shift to shift basis, keeping both Foremen and Lonshore updated via BCMEA dispatch office.
Directly dispatch Longshore Foremen on a daily basis.
Act as Liaison between Longshore Labour/Foremen and Terminal Supervisors as required.
Direct activities of workers engaged in loading, ensuring all necessary equipment is available, as well as materials for separations when required from third party providers.
Supervise workers engaged in checking and loading cargo to ensure that cargo is loaded in specified sequence and in accordance with shipping instructions.
Prepare various reports of stevedoring activities at the end of each shift, including cargo loaded, any weather and/or terminal or longshoremen delays, number of longshoremen used, and materials required if any.
Manage consideration of stow factors, cargo stowage, vessel stability and the characteristics of grain, oilseeds and pulses.
Manage processes of vessel loading operations, terminal loading systems, cargo sensitivities and grain separations.
Work with Vessel Agents, Terminal Personnel, Suppliers and Port Authorities on a regular basis.
Prepare stow plans and pre-arrival conditions for loading.
Order materials for vessel requirements (separations, strapping etc).
Ensure vessel meets all inspection and stability requirements prior to commencement of loading.
Liaison with Master and Chief Officer on the loading rotation.
Site supervision including attending vessels, for each shift, on a daily basis.
Ensure employee adherence to SH&E requirements
Attend vessel prior to completion to supervise the final loading sequence in order to meet the vessel's required departure conditions.
Prepare final stow plan upon completion of loading and issue final loading reports.
What you bring to our Team

Ability to identify and solve operational problems.
Minimum 3 (three) years experience within the marine industry, with previous experience in a customer focused operation, in stevedoring, transport or related field.
Post secondary degree in Agriculture, commerce or Bachelor of Administration.
