Graduate Trainee - Actuarial

Responsibilities

As an Actuarial Management Trainee, you will work under the guidance of experienced mentors and gain hands-on exposure to core actuarial modeling and reporting functions through rotations and project-based learning:

  • Assist in building, testing, and documenting actuarial models to support quarterly/annual financial and capital assessments;
  • Learn and participate in model change processes (e.g., new product launches, assumption updates) in line with VSSC Model Change Management guidelines;
  • Support the actuarial team with regulatory submissions, audit preparations, and ad-hoc analytical projects;
  • Use tools such as Excel, VBA, SQL, Python, or GGY AXIS (as applicable) for data processing and model validation under supervision;
  • Engage in internal knowledge-sharing sessions and gradually take ownership of small task modules to develop communication and teamwork skills;
  • Proactively suggest improvements to tools, workflows, or frameworks to enhance team efficiency.

Requirements

  • Final-year undergraduate or master's student graduating in 2025, majoring in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field;
  • Strong interest in actuarial science, risk management, or financial modeling, with solid quantitative and analytical foundations;
  • Proficient in Excel; experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, VBA, SQL) is a plus;
  • Strong logical thinking, eagerness to learn, and a sense of responsibility; able to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Good command of English (both written and spoken);
  • Prior progress in actuarial exams (e.g., SOA/CAA) is preferred but not required;
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and ready to grow through real-world challenges.
