About the role
Graduate Project Engineer
Key purpose of this role (and team)
Working with the Project Delivery Team, the Graduate Project Engineer is responsible for assisting in managing the technical requirements and deliverables of Energy Solutions projects. They assist the team with all aspects of design and project engineering, and to incorporate new innovations and best practice into the AGL design standards and ways of working.
Key Accountabilities of the role
Engineering Design & Compliance: Support the development of safe, compliant engineering designs for Energy Solutions projects (including Solar PV and Energy Storage), ensuring alignment with WHS requirements, industry standards, and project delivery timelines.
Technical Documentation & Specifications: Specify bills of materials, component and supplier selections, complete required engineering calculations, and create, maintain, and deliver high‑quality drawing packages and project documentation.
Project Delivery Support: Work closely with Project Managers, Drafting, installers, subcontractors and customers to resolve technical issues during installation, adjust designs as required, and support commissioning and handover activities.
Schedule & Quality Management: Manage engineering milestones including drawings, BOMs, embedded generation applications and QA activities, maintaining scheduled versus actual delivery dates and supporting quality assurance outcomes.
Safety in Design & HSE Leadership: Embed safety‑in‑design principles across all engineering work, conduct safety and quality walks, complete proactive HSE activities, and support incident and near‑miss investigations in line with AGL procedures.
Contractor & Compliance Governance: Ensure subcontractor engagement, WHS compliance, quality standards and contractor management activities align with the AGL contractor management framework and regulatory obligations.
Continuous Improvement & Industry Engagement: Drive ongoing improvement in processes, design accuracy, installation efficiency and product innovation, while staying current with technical, regulatory and industry developments and contributing to tenders and proposals as required.
Qualifications, key skills and experience required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Photovoltaic Engineering or equivalent
Knowledge of distributed energy technologies and electrical design fundamentals
High attention to detail with a specific ability to value engineer technical solutions
Strong organisational capability to manage multiple stakeholders and deliver on conflicting priorities
Self-motivated, achievement oriented, well disciplined, task focused with a strong sense of timeliness
Knowledge of required design and modelling packages such as Helioscope, PVsyst and AutoCAD
