Job Description:

The Graduate Education and Student Success Coordinator advances the mission of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine by providing strategic coordination and administrative leadership for graduate and postdoctoral education. Serving as a key member of the newly established Office of Graduate Student Success, this position works collaboratively with the Research and Graduate Education Manager to enhance the academic experience, professional growth, and overall success of graduate students across the School's departments — Comparative Biomedical Sciences (CBS), Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), and Pathobiological Sciences (PBS). This position plays a central role in developing and implementing programs that support graduate student mentorship, retention, and career readiness. The coordinator also contributes to the development of pipeline programs, professional development initiatives, and partnerships that strengthen pathways into graduate education and research. The role requires strong collaboration, independent judgment, and a student-centered approach to program coordination.

Job Responsibilities:

30%- Student Success, Mentorship, and Retention: In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Organizational Health and Mentorship, design, implement, and evaluate both short-term and long-term mentorship initiatives that enhance academic and professional growth. Develop and execute programs that strengthen support, retention, progression, and graduation outcomes for DVM and graduate students within LSU Vet Med.

-Facilitate the creation and use of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to guide graduate students in setting academic and career goals Provide ongoing support and serve as a point of contact for graduate students seeking guidance on academic and professional development resources.

-Oversee the use and administration of the Xinspire mentorship platform for both DVM and graduate students, ensuring accurate user management, data integrity, and alignment with the School's mentorship goals.

30%- Graduate Education Coordination and Administration: -Serve as the liaison with International Services to coordinate and streamline visa processing for all graduate students. Maintain an efficient and compliant process across all graduate programs by staying current on travel and visa regulations, completing required LSU training, and collaborating with the Office of International Faculty and Scholars and departmental staff to ensure accuracy and adherence to university and federal guidelines.

-Coordinate and provide administrative support for graduate education programs across CBS, VCS, and PBS, serving as a resource for departmental graduate coordinators and faculty advisors.

-Collaborate closely with the Research and Graduate Education Manager, departmental leadership, and the LSU Graduate School to ensure consistent implementation of policies, academic processes, and program requirements.

20%- Pipeline and Program Development: -Manage and sustain a summer undergraduate pipeline program that promotes interest and preparation for the DVM program. Collaborate with the Manager for Research and Graduate Education to develop and coordinate a summer undergraduate research program that serves as a pathway into graduate study within the School of Veterinary Medicine.

-Support the promotion and visibility of these programs through events, partnerships, and outreach efforts.

- Assess and report program outcomes to help strengthen long-term pipeline strategies supporting both DVM and graduate education initiatives.

15%- Professional Development: -Support the professional and career development of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows by coordinating educational workshops, seminars, and events that promote academic success, leadership, and lifelong learning. -Partner with faculty and campus units to expand professional development opportunities and experiential learning for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. -Organize, promote, and evaluate workshops, seminars, and professional development events designed to strengthen graduate student research, leadership, and career readiness skills

5%- Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience or master’s degree and one year of
related experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

 Master's degree and three or more years of related experience.

  

Special and Physical Qualifications: 

FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center.
