JOB PURPOSE: The Graduate Assistant for the Campus Life Office will serve as a staff member of the ASPC Office and the Campus Life team by supporting and overseeing the Pomona Events Committee (PEC) committee chairs in facilitating ongoing programming for Pomona College students, as well as assisting the office with general programming for the broader campus community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Director of Campus Life Engagement, the Graduate Assistant performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Advise PEC Committee chairs and committee members
  • Assist in the overall training of PEC (leadership, communication, and programming skills)
  • Supervise the production of PEC events
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of Campus Life events for the entire community
  • Attend and assist in the facilitation of the following: PEC Fall training retreat, Winter & Spring formal, The Claremont Colleges "5-College Club" & Activities Fair, PEC weekly meetings, and weekly professional staff meetings
  • Assist the Director in the Coordination of The Claremont Colleges Services campus activities and events. This includes the coordination of the registration of clubs and organizations for the annual 5-College Club Fair (Activities Fair)
  • Participate in Campus Life and Division of Student Affairs staff meetings
  • Meet weekly with the Director of Campus Life
  • Work approximately 20 hours a week (Evening and weekend hours will be required for some events)
  • Use Engage extensively to assist with and create programming
  • Assist with logistical duties related to supporting the college’s student run Judicial Board
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: This position must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job or must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills and abilities not listed below:

  • Be enrolled in an Education or Student Affairs–related graduate program
  • Background in student activities or related experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, Engage (campus management software/application)
  • Demonstrated commitment to a student development philosophy within higher education
  • Understanding of how to meet the cultural, social, and recreational needs of a campus community
  • Values that are supportive of and compatible with the principles of a liberal arts institution

REQUIRED HOURS AND ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a 10-month position with the potential opportunity for summer work, requiring 20 hours per week at a pay rate of $19.00 per hour.
