Policy Strategy & Advocacy
Develop and lead RSM’s government relations strategy aligned with the firm’s business prioritiesand values.
Monitor, analyze and respond to legislative and regulatory developments that impact RSM andits clients.
Advocate for policies that support the middle market, professional services, and innovation in assurance, tax and consulting.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, trade associations, and policy influencers.
Support our lines of business with regulator relationships and regulatory matters.
Support relationship leaders and engage directly with clients as needed in coordination with line of business, industry or channel strategies to drive client experience, business growth and go-to market activities.
Represent RSM in industry coalitions, public forums, and with key government agencies.o Represent RSM on policy committees for AICPA, Center for Audit Quality, etc.
Internal Collaboration
Partner with RSM’s line of business, industry, channel, risk and communications leaders to align policy positions with firm strategy.
Provide regular briefings to enterprise and line of business executive leadership on policy risks and opportunities.
Thought Leadership & Communication
Position RSM as the first-choice advisor for the modern middle market by supporting the development of relevant policy commentary and serving as spokesperson on certain policy matters.
Work with RSM thought leaders to draft position papers, testimony, comment letters and policy briefs.
Support executive participation in advocacy events.
Team Leadership
Build and manage RSM’s in-house government relations team.
Oversee contracts and work of lobbying agencies in coordination with legal counsel.
Risk Management
Ensure alignment around policy priorities, positioning and messages.
Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements in coordination with ORM

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
BA/BS in political science, public relations or accounting (required)
Advanced degree in law, public policy or related field (preferred)
TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS
Legislative & regulatory knowledge (required)
Strong network within government, trade associations, and policy circles (required)
Policy analysis – evaluating the impact of public policy and crafting policy briefs, position papers and comment letters (required)
Compliance & ethics – Knowledge of lobbying laws, reporting requirements and ethical standards (required)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills(required)
Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (required)
EXPERIENCE
15+ years of proven experience in government relations, preferably within an assurance, tax and consulting firm (required)
Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes (required)
Experience developing and executing advocacy strategies (required)
Experience working with Senate Banking, House Financial Services, Senate Finance or Ways and Means is highly desirable (preferred)
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Strategic Planning – ability to align government relations strategies with business goals and planning for regulatory developments (required)
Guiding cross-functional teams and mentoring junior staff (required)
Representing the organization in high-stakes settings(required)
