Job Summary
A Government Banking-Relationship Manager manages government sector relationships and is assigned to Government Banking in the Institutional Banking Solutions group. Responsible for new business development of relationships that will drive profitability from government entities (state, county, municipal, public school districts and public higher education) across their respective markets. Generates deal flow directly from these clients/prospects and orchestrates a team approach to the relationship.
The position is supported by product specialists, portfolio managers (credit, underwriting, transaction approvals/processing) and operational support specialists but remains accountable for all aspects of the relationship. Responsible for; sourcing, deepening through effective cross-selling of municipal loans, treasury management and liquidity products and the continued retention of profitable customer relationships. Manages a moderately complex portfolio of public sector clients ensuring growth and retention of profitable banking relationships with minimal risk to the bank, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
Pay Range: $102,281.25 - $136,375.00 - $148,218.00
Job Responsibilities:
New Business Origination
- Develops and maintains relationships to generate direct deal flow; Coordinates the team approach to approving and closing new deals to increase fee income, grow deposits, assets and revenues while optimizing profitability (ROE).
Relationship Management
- Works with assigned portfolio managers, engage with internal partners and borrowers on idea generation and relevant opportunities to expand our relationship.
Strategic Planning
- Partners with management to create action plans that ensure the achievement of goals. Tracks production and revenue and forecasting results for management based on existing pipelines.
Credit Quality
- Works with assigned portfolio managers to ensure pro-active monitoring of the credit quality of the portfolio through timely financial statement gathering, monitoring client’s compliance with ongoing required reporting, properly analyzing financial information and taking or recommending appropriate corrective actions based on acceptable levels.
- Ultimately responsible for managing the banks risk exposure to acceptable levels.

- Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications:
- Education level required: High School / High School Equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC) / Foreign Equivalent.
- Minimum experience required: 6+ Years of experience as a Commercial Relationship Manager and/or public sector sales.
- Sales experience in commercial treasury management may substitute for production experience.
- Experience specific to Corporate Banking, Regional Commercial & Corporate or Specialized Industries lending may be required depending on the role: Specialized industries: Investment Banking, Leveraged Finance, or Capital Markets experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education level preferred: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) in business, finance or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Credit training.
- Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation.
- Knowledge of institutional banking products, including deposit services, treasury management, payment processing, and public financing.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance issues related to the public sector.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of government, public sector, non-profits, higher education, and other specialty verticals relevant to institutional banking.
- Sales Expertise: Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth, managing complex client relationships, and expanding market share.
Job Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of commercial lending credit, underwriting and loan structuring skills.
- Advanced analytical skills to understand financial and cash flow analyses.
- Highly developed negotiation skills in addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience utilizing a calling strategy to actively call on prospects/clients and establish a personally developed network of clients and potential clients to source deals through various centers of influence.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrates a strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders by communicating clearly, engaging in proactive collaboration, and leveraging cross functional insights. Aligns relationship building efforts with enterprise goals to accelerate performance and drive strategic results.

- Some travel may be required.
