About the Role

The Germany Government Affairs Manager will support the Head of Government Affairs DACH in shaping and delivering the government affairs programmed in Germany and neighboring countries with a particular focus on Poland. The role will be based in Berlin. The most important policy areas are: artificial intelligence, intellectual property, privacy and data protection, science and research, digitization and health.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Developing high-quality working relationships with colleagues in a wide variety of corporate level and business divisions functions at all levels of seniority and a strong understanding of RELX’s portfolio of businesses.

  • Liaising and working with the wider RELX Government Affairs team to share information and best practices and ensuring appropriate alignment of engagement strategies across jurisdictions.

  • Identifying and monitoring German public policy developments that have the potential to impact on the company’s operations and priorities;

  • As directed, extending this remit to other neighboring markets with a particular focus in Poland;

  • Supporting engagement with ministers and senior government officials and preparing briefing materials as required;

  • Coordinating and preparing written submissions, such as responses to government consultations and Parliamentary enquiries;

  • Building positive networks and alliances with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. think tanks, other companies) relevant to the company’s policy agenda.

  • Working with RELX’s external political consultancies.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in a public policy environment, demonstrating a clear understanding of the intersection of business and government and experience in navigating political processes and parliamentary systems to advance an advocacy agenda.

  • A strong interest and background in at least one major area of policy interest to RELX: i.e. copyright, data, research and technology.

  • Proven excellence in written and oral communication.

  • Some level of engagement with government institutions would be preferable

  • Fluency in German and English, Polish would be an asset.

  • The ability to balance the need to be an engaged team player and be a self-starting, initiative taker.

  • Comfortable with complexity and able to operate within different company cultures.

  • Intellectually curious, diplomatic and robust.

  • A keen willingness to learn, develop professionally and to take on new challenges.
