The Opportunity

The Government Affairs Lead is responsible for leading NCC Group’s engagement with UK government and political stakeholders, while also supporting government affairs activities at the European Union level. The role’s purpose is to build and strengthen NCC Group’s relationships and reputation with key decision-makers, monitor and analyse relevant policies and regulations, and provide strategic advice to senior management. By representing NCC Group externally and contributing to thought leadership, this role ensures the business is well-connected, informed, and influential in the political and regulatory environments that impact its operations and growth.

The Challenge

  • Build and maintain relationships with UK and EU political decision-makers, government departments, and agencies.
  • Enhance engagement with industry associations, think tanks, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent NCC Group at meetings, conferences, and public forums.
  • Support internal experts in legislative hearings and contribute to thought leadership.
  • Monitor and analyse government policies, legislation, and regulatory departments.
  • Identify political and regulatory risks and opportunities, providing insights to senior management.
  • Develop and communicate NCC Group’s positions on policy developments.
  • Advise senior leadership on government affairs and policy issues.

Functional and technical skills:

  • Excellent communication (written and spoken language) skills in English (additional languages are advantageous), and the ability to distil key messages to different audiences and make the complex simple.
  • Strong understanding of the UK and EU institutional and stakeholder landscape, and political and legislative processes.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, across a range of seniority levels.
  • Ability to identify potential opportunities for delivering value to the business.
  • Ability to prioritise workload to deliver consistently high-quality outcomes on time.
  • A genuine interest in the tech / cyber security sector, and how well-formed government policy can drive better outcomes. Willingness to travel and operate collaboratively as part of global teams in dynamic and sometimes challenging environments.
  • Previous experience in a relevant environment such as public affairs consultancy or an in-house public affairs function, the civil service or other institutions, think tanks, a political party, or in a legislature, or national technical authority.
  • Experience in tech, digital or cyber security policy, and experience of campaign management and/or lobbying.
