As a GNC Engineer: Aerodynamics – Level 3 or Level 4 located in Chandler, AZ, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

In this role, you will be responsible for modeling, simulating, and analyzing actuation systems that support various launch and target vehicle programs. This role involves cross-disciplinary collaboration to design and evaluate control systems, maintain and improve math models, and provide technical support for system performance, integration, and anomaly resolutions.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

In this job, you will:

  • Modeling and Simulation of actuation systems for various launch vehicles, target vehicles, and business development programs
  • Work under general direction of Flight Sciences Functional Manager, Functional Lead and various Program engineers
  • Collaborate with other disciplines, Mechanical Electrical, and Systems to determine best means to achieve objectives
  • Design and analysis of single loop and multi-loop PID control systems, including electromechanical and electro-hydraulic actuation systems
  • Create new and maintain existing linear and nonlinear math models of actuations systems, in both MATLAB and C++ forms
  • Evaluation of math model simulation output versus actual test data. Determine source of discrepancies and update models
  • Plan and conduct actuator systems engineering work that includes evaluation of new systems, and/or adaptation and modification of existing systems
  • Develop performance requirements for actuation system specifications
  • Review actuation system test data. Where necessary, identify processing issues and implement corrections
  • Provide anomaly investigation support for production and fielded actuation systems
  • Perform trade studies for new actuation system applications
  • Generate and revise relevant documentation summarizing work performed
  • Conduct kinematic analysis and mathematical modeling of 3-bar and 4-bar systems
  • Other duties as assigned

This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company.

This position can be filled at either a Level 3 or Level 4.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.  Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Experience with C++, MATLAB, Simulink and Python

Basic Qualifications for Level 4:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.  Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Experience with C++, MATLAB, Simulink and Python

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience with Linux operating systems
  • Excellent technical writing and presentation skills
  • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards 

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
