We have an exciting opportunity for a General Manager Data Science and Delivery. This role will report directly to the Chief Data Officer.
Please note this is a fixed term opportunity available for the period of 12 months.
A bit about your role
As the General Manager Data Science and Delivery, you will lead the delivery engineering teams across data science, data engineering and software engineering, creating a supportive environment where people thrive and outcomes are delivered with care and precision. You will oversee the end‑to‑end delivery of data and analytics use cases, partnering closely with the demand management team to ensure timelines, budgets and quality standards are met. Your leadership will bring clarity to complex programs, guiding the development of innovative data solutions, self‑service capabilities and foundational platforms such as nbn’s data marketplace to unlock the value of our data assets across the organisation.
In this role, you will champion data‑driven decision‑making, shaping and executing a cohesive data science strategy that aligns with the Chief Data Office and nbn’s broader goals. You will steward projects from concept to adoption, apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to derive meaningful insights, and embed predictive modelling within use cases that improve customer experience, operational efficiency and business performance. Through inclusive collaboration across teams, you will nurture partnerships that turn great ideas into practical, scalable data products that serve our purpose of lifting Australia’s digital capability.
A bit about you
If this sounds like you, you will bring significant leadership experience in data science or a related discipline such as data or software engineering, with a proud track record of delivering complex data initiatives and mentoring high‑performing teams. You are fluent in modern data practices, including Python or R, SQL (with Spark preferred), and source control management tools like Git, and you are comfortable with data manipulation and analysis libraries such as Pandas, NumPy and SciPy. Your knowledge of cloud computing, particularly AWS, and your grounding in statistical modelling and machine learning algorithms enable you to design solutions that are both elegant and dependable.
You are an inclusive, relationship‑centred leader who listens deeply, communicates with clarity, and builds trust through collaboration. You navigate ambiguity with a calm, solutions‑oriented mindset, bringing people together to co‑design pragmatic delivery plans and celebrate shared success. With your thoughtful approach to change and commitment to continuous improvement, you will inspire a culture where data is accessible, meaningful and responsibly used – ensuring nbn remains forward‑thinking, community‑minded and capable of achieving its goals.
