Role Summary
The Global/ US Medical and Scientific Communications (MSC) Capabilities Hub Team Lead will report to the US/Global Medical and Scientific Communications Lead in the larger Medical and Scientific Communications organization, a part of Medical Evidence Development (MED) / Chief Medical Office (CMO).
The Global/ US Medical and Scientific Communications Capabilities Hub Team Lead will be accountable for developing, implementing, governing, and continuously evolving the global off-shore capabilities hubs to deliver high quality, trusted, and accurate end-to-end medical publications & medical content to enhance innovative communication of scientific evidence to healthcare providers, patients, and caretakers ensuring compliance with Pfizer policies and local requirements. The role operates with enterprise level accountability & impact and is recognized internally and externally as a functional expert in medical communications, medical review, medical information, and scientific content enablement.
The Role will be responsible for leading the offshore Medical Communications and Content Solutions (MCCS) Team accountable for creating global medical channel content across all Pfizer therapeutic areas and medicines, including abstracts, manuscripts, congress presentations, plain language summaries, slide decks, social media posts and other types of external-facing medical content. In addition, the Role will also direct the off-shore Medical Information & Review Team to deliver high quality, trusted, and accurate medical information content, strong medical review capabilities, and operational excellence.
As a senior enterprise leader, this role leverages expertise across Divisions and Global Business Units, influences senior management decisions, and sponsors teams that set strategic direction impacting multiple functions; this role will draw upon best practices to identify new ways of working and drive continuous improvement that generates value for medical colleagues.
Role Responsibilities
Lead the offshore Medical Communications and Content Solutions (MCCS) team accountable for creating global medical channel content across all Pfizer therapeutic areas and medicines, including abstracts, manuscripts, congress presentations, plain language summaries, slide decks, social media posts and other types of external-facing medical content. In addition, they will also lead the off-shore Medical Information & Review Team.
Sponsor and lead enterprise level teams that define the strategic direction for global medical content development, review, and medical information capabilities, with impact beyond the immediate organization.
Lead the development and implementation of the global medical content production strategy which includes offshoring, agency consolidation and technology enabled in-house content creation and localization across Global/US and International.
Anticipate and influence continuous improvement and innovation in day to day operations, balancing compliance, quality, scalability, speed, and long term business performance.
Oversee an offshore team responsible for developing global medical channel content across all Pfizer therapeutic areas and medicines: Internal Medicine, Specialty Care, Vaccines, and Oncology.
Optimize publications and medical content development capabilities for all relevant medical affairs content, including abstracts, manuscripts, congress presentations, plain language summaries, slide decks, social media posts and other types of external-facing medical content.
Elevate Gen AI fluency & implementation and drive development of tools and processes, including new generative AI technology platforms, that ensure efficient and compliant execution of medical affairs content across Global and International teams.
Make and influence high impact decisions that may entail strategic risk or business opportunity, with long term implications for medical communications operating models and enterprise capability maturity.
Monitor progress and manage stakeholder expectations around impact of outsourcing, change management, risks, and mitigation strategies
Promote best practices and organizational expertise in Medical Review skills & capabilities across Medical and Promotional Content Reviews.
Advance off-shore Medical Information skills and inquiry handling capabilities to provide trusted and accurate medical information for Pfizer Global Brands products to US healthcare providers, patients, and caretakers ensuring compliance with Pfizer policies and requirements.
Oversee, plan, and project resource utilization and allocation to meet the publications and medical contentneeds of the Medical Affairs Category Teams.
Manage, lead, and oversee people, technological, and financial resources of high complexity, including significant resources outside of direct reporting authority.
Operationalize transformative initiatives: Inception of pilot activities and business implementation with an enterprise mindset.
Define and assess metrics focused on Publications/ Content Development, Medical Review, Medical Information Inquiry handling, team utilization and performance; develop compelling and insightful strategic recommendations for enhancing operational efficiency and impact.
This role requires building and maintaining strong working relationships with diverse colleagues across the Pfizer enterprise. This includes Medical / Scientific Communications & Content Teams, the US and International Medical Affairs Team, Clinical Development and Research Teams, Medical Category Team Leaders, Corporate Communications, Scientific / Medical enablement platforms, congress working teams, digital channel content teams, Medical Engagement & MI Content Team Lead, Med Info & Review Category Strategy Team Leads, and Generative AI teams. The Team Lead will exert matrix leadership to ensure alignment and drive strategic initiatives.
The role exerts matrix leadership and senior level influence to align priorities and drive outcomes across Divisions and Global Business Units.
This role demands a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of the evolving scientific landscape, medical affairs best practices, the nuances of medical communication, and the needs of diverse stakeholders, both internal and external.
Basic Qualifications
Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, MD, PhD)
Min 7+ years experience in Medical Affairs including Medical Information, Medical Communications, Publications, Medical Content, Field Medical or related discipline.
Demonstrated effectiveness working in cross-functional business environment.
Proven leadership in managing people and projects both directly and via a matrixed or indirect leadership.
Minimum of 5+ years of management experience preferred (including budget and financial planning) in a senior position in industry, academia or a healthcare institution; experience managing leaders with the ability to effectively lead complex teams in a matrix environment
Strong interpersonal skills to quickly build rapport and credibility with Pfizer leaders and key external stakeholders cross culturally/regionally.
Experience in medical content development, medical review, medical information, publication planning/writing in academic settings/ communications experience within an agency, CRO, Pharma / Biotech Company.
Effective English verbal and written communication with flexibility to be clear, consistent, compliant, and appropriate for a variety of settings
Demonstrate ability to drive transformational change, lead teams and engage diverse stakeholders, and understand the applications of technology to medical content development
Experience in collaborating with Global stakeholders and managing stringent timelines.
Global experience in working with different markets that span various cultures, languages, and time zones
Proven track record of delivering business performance
Demonstrated history of leading innovation / transformation
Strong ability to drive collaboration and foster highly productive cross-functional relationships

Expertise in managing international teams remotely
Supervision: Global / US Medical Communications & Content Solutions (MCCS) and off-shore Medical Information & Review Teams. Role will have oversight of 6-7 direct reports which will include MCCS Team Leads and off-shore Medical Information & Review Team Leads.

This is a hybrid role requiring you to live within commuting distance and work on-site an average of 2.5 days per week.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $214,900.00 to $358,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 22.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
