The Opportunity

This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives.   As a global leader in diabetes care, Abbott is constantly working to deliver the highest quality products and unwavering support to our customers.  Consistent and accurate glucose monitoring is the foundation of any diabetes management plan, so we’re committed to continuous improvement in the way patients and professionals measure, track and analyze glucose levels.

As a Global Training Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing training programs that enhance the skills, performance, and productivity of our employees worldwide. You will work closely with department leaders to identify training needs and create curriculum that aligns with our company’s strategic goals.

  • Deliver strategic and tactical activities in partnership with Training Managers, Affiliate commercial teams, and Sales Directors as well as relevant stakeholder teams.
  • Develop and implement training programs across the globe, supporting all roles and teams within the commercial function in line with business strategies, curricula and company goals.
  • Support the development and execution of a training strategy according to company guidelines through the implementation of a global training road map.

This is an onsite opportunity in Alameda, CA

What You’ll Do

Global Learning Strategy & Governance

  • Lead the design, development, and continuous evolution of global commercial training programs aligned with ADC’s strategic goals.
  • Establish and maintain global training standards, competency frameworks, learning maps, and governance models to ensure consistency and scalability across regions.
  • Own the global train‑the‑trainer strategy, including methodology, certification, KPIs, and quality standards.

Program & Content Development

  • Oversee the creation, curation, and optimization of training content, tools, and curricula in collaboration with global and regional stakeholders.
  • Develop innovative learning solutions to support product launches, product portfolio education, competitive readiness, and ongoing skills development.
  • Build learning journeys within Allego and other platforms, ensuring a blended learning approach (e-learning, virtual, in-person, microlearning, on-the-job experiences).

Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Global Strategic Marketing, Regional Commercial leaders, Medical, Compliance, and Training Managers to assess needs, identify gaps, and develop aligned training solutions.
  • Influence stakeholders across geographies and functions to drive adoption of global training programs and standards.
  • Serve as a global subject matter expert on ADC products, markets, customer needs, and emerging trends.

Insights, Innovation & Best Practices

  • Monitor industry trends, competitive landscapes, adult learning research, and commercial capability innovations to inform continuous improvement.
  • Identify, share, and scale best practices across regions to strengthen global commercial excellence.

Measurement, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Define and track training effectiveness KPIs, adoption metrics, and business impact.
  • Use learner analytics and feedback to optimize content and programs over time.
  • Recommend and evaluate external vendors, tools, and technologies (final approvals remain with the hiring manager).

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure timely execution of global training initiatives within defined budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and global certification events as needed (virtual and in-person).
  • Maintain and continuously update training materials to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Travel: ~30%, including international.

Experience You’ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in commercial, training, or learning and development roles, preferably within health sciences, diagnostics, medical devices, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering global commercial training programs at scale.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and modern learning technologies.
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate effectively across countries, cultures, and functions without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and training development technologies/platforms.

Preferred

  • Experience in sales or sales management roles within healthcare or diagnostics industries.
  • Experience coaching or developing others in both virtual and in-person environments.
  • Familiarity with Allego, LMS/LXP platforms, and digital learning tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Additional language skills an asset.

The base pay for this position is

$130,700.00 – $261,300.00
