For our Global Competence Center Cement we are looking for a Global Systems Engineer & IT/OT Manager (f/m/d).
The Global Systems Engineer & IT/OT Manager is a global role within the Industry 4.0 Department, responsible for defining, standardizing, and governing systems and IT/OT environments across Heidelberg Materials’ cement plants.
The role works across regions and plants, supporting local teams through common architectures, engineering standards, and system concepts, with the objective of enabling stable operations, scalable digital solutions, and remote operation capabilities.
The role focuses on the engineering and system foundations of automation and Industry 4.0, acting as a reference point and SME for regions and plants.
This position is located in Heidelberg and reports directly to the Director Global Operational Excellence & Transformation.
YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE
Act as global subject‑matter expert (SME) for systems engineering and architecture topics, supporting areas and sites with technical guidance, engineering concepts, and best practices
Drive the standardization of control system architectures, ensuring consistent and scalable approaches for Process Control Systems (PCS), HMI / SCADA environments, PLC platforms, and integration with industrial equipment
Support Area for Process Control Networks (PCN) and automation‑related IT/OT infrastructures, with a focus on robustness, availability, and long‑term maintainability
Structuring and standardizing the use of virtual machine environments for automation systems, including definition of standard setups, lifecycle concepts, and alignment across plants
Support the deployment, structuring, and effective use of operational tools such as, data historians, reliability monitoring systems, quality systems and comparable systems, ensuring common usage principles, data consistency, and alignment with global standards
Act as the technical interface for Remote Operation initiatives, including HROC, Remote Control Centers, and Remote Grinding, ensuring that local automation systems and architectures are compatible with centralized and remote operation concepts
Support the definition of control philosophies, operational boundaries, and interlock concepts required for safe and reliable remote supervision and control of cement plant assets
Contribute expert input to global and regional automation‑related projects and CAPEX initiatives, through design reviews, architecture validation, and technical alignment
Support knowledge consolidation and harmonization across regions aligning with CCC- Area automation experts around common engineering principles, tools, and system standards
YOUR PROFILE
University degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or comparable technical discipline
Extensive experience (ideally 15+ years) in industrial automation and systems engineering within cement or heavy process industries
Strong technical background in PCS, HMI / SCADA, PLC environments, PCN, and industrial automation architectures.
Proven experience with IT/OT infrastructures, including virtualized environments and cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems
Experience working in global or multi‑regional contexts, supporting plants through standards and expert guidance rather than direct authority
Recognized ability to act as SME and technical reference in complex technical environments
Structured, analytical mindset with the ability to translate operational requirements into scalable engineering solutions
Excellent English language skills are required; any additional languages are an advantage
