Education required To apply for this placement, you must be:

Currently studying an Undergraduate Degree in Biomedical Sciences Life Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Marketing, Biosciences, Medical, Pharmacy or Nursing.

Other requirements You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) University for the duration of your placement.

If you have already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

Expected Start date: June 2026

Duration: 1 year (approximately)

Salary:  A salary of £27,100 plus a bonus.

Role 1 - ViiV Medical Operations

Degree Requirement - Biomedical Sciences, Marketing & open to other degrees.

Overview of the Department

This role is an opportunity to join a function that stretches across all business functions, whether global, regional or local. During your placement with Medical Operations, you will have end-to-end ownership of assigned project deliverables such as the Virology Education Conference sponsorship programme, during which you will be working to map out the annual programme including publication overview, allocation of attendance, managing sponsorship benefits with regional/local leads globally (conferences can occur in any global location). This team is highly accountable, high functioning and delivers high profile projects under pressure. 

Key Placement Learnings

  • Owning the end-to-end management of the Virology Education Conference sponsorship programme – working to map out the annual programme including publication overview, allocation of attendance, managing sponsorship benefits with regional/local leads globally (conferences can occur in any global location)

  • Participating in and assisting in running cross-functional strategic planning sessions

  • Multi-functional stakeholder management – engaging across the business on high profile projects

  • Stakeholder workstream management – attending workstream meetings and reporting back to the broader project lead team to ensure overall alignment to objectives •        Agency liaison

  • Close working with the respective congress operations managers in order to support regional congress operating groups and ensure alignment to global strategy and tactical implementation, involvement of Tier 1 & tier 2 congresses.

  • Agency liaison, coordinating with external partners to support project delivery.

  • Collaboration with congress operations managers, supporting regional congress operating groups and ensuring alignment with global strategy and tactical implementation, including Tier 1 & Tier 2 congresses.

  • Evaluation of global strategy implementation, considering both medical and commercial perspectives.

  • Delivery of materials within local regulatory frameworks, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.

Role 2 - ViiV Medical Digital Coordinator

Overview of the Department

Global Medical Digital drives and enhances the use of digital, data, analytics and AI solutions to complement and strengthen Medical’s ability to better understand, address and even anticipate the needs of those impacted by HIV. We work to transform ViiV's customer engagement in an era of rapid digital innovation and technological advancement, to drive competitive personalised experiences and accelerate towards ending the HIV and AIDS epidemic.

Key Placement Learnings

  • Coordinating Content Lab activities

  • Researching and presenting on new medical digital technologies

Role 3 - ViiV Global Medical Affairs

Overview of the Department

Join a dynamic and fast paced medical affairs with a strong interface with the research and development team. Gain scientific expertise through interpreting and demonstrating the results of late-stage clinical trials and real-world data sets, as well as providing medical input for regulatory updates. This department supports drug safety teams in pharmacovigilance activities and provides medical expertise and guidance to commercial teams, feeding into the wider research and development strategy by monitoring competitor activity and seeking advice from Healthcare Professionals for regulatory updates.

Key Placement Learnings

  • Conduct literature searches and support development of internal and external medical training materials.

  • Collaborate across medical, commercial, and finance teams to gain cross-functional exposure.

  • Perform data gap analysis to inform clinical trial strategy while gaining research methodology experience.

  • Develop project management skills by coordinating with cross-functional teams on key initiatives.

  • Facilitate internal meetings, lead internal newsletters, and manage communications with creative agencies.

Role 4 – ViiV Regional Medical Affairs

Overview of the Department

The Regional Above country team consists of the Medical Strategy & Operations lead, 3 Regional Medical Leads (RML') supporting the ViiV brands, the Capabilities & Medical excellence lead, Patient Affairs lead and a supporting team. The team supports countries across Europe and International regions (which includes Latin America, Africa & the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Australia and Canada) and country medical affairs leads to deliver excellent scientific engagement.

Key Placement Learnings

  • Support the European above country medical affairs team of Regional Medical leads, Patient Affairs lead and the Medical Capabilities lead to provide training and materials.

  • Deliver above country activities such as advisory board, congress symposiums and medical educational workshops.

  • New starter medical on-boarding and training sessions.

  • Support community/patient advisory board meetings and other community outreach activities

Role 5 – ViiV Global Paediatric Medical Affairs

Degree requirements: Biomedical Sciences preferred but open to other Life Sciences

Overview of the Department

This role is an opportunity to join the Global Paediatrics Medical Affairs team, which supports the overall mission of paediatrics across the portfolio, working closely with R+D, medical affairs, global commercial, scientific communications, and health outcomes group. ViiV has the aspiration to make HIV infections and AIDS rare events for children and adolescents and make HIV a smaller part of the daily lives of children, adolescents, and their caregivers. The successful candidate will gain experience of planning and delivering of paediatric medical affairs initiatives and activities for internal stakeholders (working with medical, research and development, sales, marketing, local operating companies) and external (health care professionals, advocacy and people living with HIV and their communities) customers.

Key Placement Learnings

  • Engaging in targeted literature reviews to enhance knowledge and identify key data gaps in paediatrics, while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the scientific process for generating evidence-based data.

  • Owning the end-to-end management of specific paediatric projects, tailored to specific interests and needs (examples include generation of African paediatric cohort tracker).

  • Assisting in the planning and development of global advisory boards, including managing external experts and collaborating with regional/local leads globally.

  • Actively participating in and contributing to cross-functional strategic planning sessions, fostering a solid comprehension of the role of Medical Affairs within the industry and cultivating project management skills.

  • Providing support in implementing the medical education strategy for paediatrics, ensuring effective delivery of educational initiatives.

  • Serving as a liaison with external agencies, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.

Role 6 – ViiV UK Medical and Patient Affairs

Degree requirements: Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Chemistry

Overview of the Department

ViiV UK Medical Affairs - London Plan, develop and execute all medical and patient affairs operations for the UK. Operations include development of medical materials for health care professionals, running of national meetings, attendance at national and international conferences, coordination of ViiV clinical trials being run in the UK, disease awareness campaigns and community partnerships.

Key Placement Learnings

  • Execute Medical Affairs strategy and tactics.

  • Plan, develop and execute innovative new strategies to engage with the HIV healthcare community, for example, national meetings, community advocacy initiatives including leading on their own project.

Role 7 - ViiV Healthcare Regulatory Affairs

Degree requirements: Life-Sciences or equivalent

Overview of the Department

The ViiV Healthcare Regulatory Affairs team ensures the development, approval, and compliance of HIV medicines with global regulatory standards. Collaborating across functions and with regulatory authorities, the team plays a key role in bringing innovative therapies to market and supporting ViiV’s mission to live no person living with HIV behind.

Key Placement Learnings

  • Provide support to the team facilitating collaboration with service providers

  • Management of regulatory activities and related documentation

Overview of the Department

Global Congress Strategy in the Global Scientific Communications organization is responsible for driving annual congress planning across therapeutic areas. This team is pivotal in driving the development of TA-level congress plans, sponsorship decisions, and scientific narratives to enable the effective execution of all congress-related deliverables. This team ensures that all narratives and plans are aligned within the asset and across the TA, partnering closely with Medical and Commercial teams for delivery

Key Placement Learnings

GSKs Global Medical Affairs (GMA) department ensures the safe and effective use of GSK’s pharmaceutical and vaccine products by providing accurate and up to date information to healthcare professionals and patients. GMA bridges clinical research and practice to enhance patient outcomes.
