Global Head of Quality Assurance, VP III - State Street Investment Management

Boston, Massachusetts Full time

State Street Investment Management (“State Street IM”, formerly State Street Global Advisors) is seeking a Global Head of Quality Assurance (QA) to lead and modernize the firm’s Quality function across a highly regulated, global investment management environment.

This executive role is responsible for defining and executing the firm-wide QA and Quality Engineering strategy, including the adoption of AI-enabled testing, test automation at scale, and the evolution toward a modern, engineering-driven quality model. The role will establish a consistent global QA operating model and partner closely with business-aligned engineering teams across regions, including US, China and India, to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery.

Reporting to the Global Head of Architecture and Engineering Governance within the COO organization, this role is central to State Street IM’s transformation toward a Product, Platform, and Service (PPS) operating model. The Global Head of QA will work closely with COO leadership, engineering, and product teams to embed quality, risk management, and controls throughout the software delivery lifecycle—aligning technology outcomes with business strategy, regulatory expectations, and enterprise architecture standards.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Operating Model

  • Define and execute the enterprise QA and Quality Engineering strategy, including AI-driven testing, automation, performance testing, and the transition from traditional QA to an engineering-led quality model.
  • Establish and continuously evolve the global QA operating model, aligned to enterprise technology standards, control expectations, and the PPS transformation.
  • Drive standardization of QA processes, tooling, governance, and reporting across portfolios, platforms, and regions.

Leadership & Organizational Maturity

  • Lead and scale global QA teams with clear role definitions, capability development plans, talent pipelines, and performance management practices.
  • Build a strong culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the QA organization.
  • Mentor senior QA leaders and managers, strengthening technical and leadership depth across the function.

Global Delivery & Partnerships

  • Partner closely with distributed QA and testing teams in US, China and India, establishing consistent quality standards, delivery governance, and execution discipline.
  • Ensure effective coordination across time zones, vendors, and partners as applicable, with predictable outcomes and transparent reporting.

Technical & Engineering Excellence

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in test architecture, automation frameworks, and CI/CD quality integration.
  • Evaluate and govern QA tooling and platforms, incorporating secure-by-design principles and compliance with technology risk requirements.
  • Champion modern testing approaches across UI, API, data, performance, and resiliency testing in complex, distributed environments.

Risk, Controls & Governance

  • Embed quality and controls throughout the SDLC/STLC, partnering with engineering and product leaders to ensure compliant and auditable delivery.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, KRIs, and controls, providing executive-level dashboards and insights on quality, stability, and release readiness.
  • Ensure readiness for audits and regulatory reviews, including evidence management and timely remediation of findings.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in software testing and Quality Assurance, with deep expertise in modern QA and Quality Engineering practices.
  • Proven track record of building and transforming global QA organizations, including large-scale transitions from manual testing to automation- and engineering-driven models.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or partnering with QA/testing teams in China and/or India within global enterprises.
  • Strong technical foundation in test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and software engineering principles, with the ability to provide architectural and tooling guidance.
  • Excellent program and delivery management discipline, including planning, dependency management, RAID governance, and execution rigor.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex technical and risk topics to executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence within matrixed, regulated organizations, delivering measurable improvements in quality, resilience, and risk reduction.
  • Strong background in technology-enabled operating model transformation, including standardization, automation at scale, and governance maturity.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MSc, or equivalent) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience applying AI/ML techniques to software testing, including intelligent test generation, prioritization, analytics, or defect prediction.
  • Deep expertise in Quality Engineering or SDET-led models, with proven “shift-left” and “shift-right” testing adoption.
  • Advanced experience with UI, API, data, performance, and resiliency testing across modern technology stacks.
  • Experience integrating QA into DevOps and CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous quality and fast feedback loops.
  • Proven ability to architect scalable test solutions for cloud-native, microservices, or distributed platforms.
  • Familiarity with AWS and/or Azure and testing in cloud-based environments.
