Job Description:

Your new role

As Global Head of Investigations, you will hold a pivotal and highly visible leadership role within the organisation, reporting directly to the Group Chief Compliance Officer. You will own and lead our global whistleblowing and investigations programme, setting strategy, governance and standards while acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, Boards and external regulators.

This role requires exceptional judgement, discretion and credibility. You will oversee sensitive, high‑risk and often cross‑border matters, ensuring concerns are handled fairly, confidentially and in full compliance with global regulatory requirements. With significant exposure to the executive leadership team, this is a role for a confident and authoritative leader who can operate with independence, integrity and calm assurance under scrutiny.

Some key responsibilities

  • Define, lead and continuously enhance Hitachi Rail’s global whistleblowing and investigations strategy, ensuring it is robust, consistent and fit for a complex international organisation.

  • Act as the primary subject‑matter expert and escalation point for sensitive investigations, including matters involving senior leadership or material risk.

  • Advise and regularly engage with senior stakeholders, including the CEO, senior executives and governance bodies, on investigation outcomes, trends and systemic risk.

  • Ensure investigations and whistleblowing processes comply with all relevant global and local legal and regulatory requirements, including privacy, data protection and whistleblower protection standards.

  • Represent the organisation with regulators and auditors in relation to investigations and whistleblowing matters.

  • Build, lead and develop a high‑performing global investigations and case management team, supported by a strong regional network and external advisors where required.

  • Establish meaningful KPIs, reporting and documentation standards to ensure transparency, audit readiness and continuous improvement.

  • Champion a strong speak‑up culture through awareness, training and engagement, reinforcing non‑retaliation and trust across the organisation.

  • Partner with Legal, HR, Internal Audit and other functions to support appropriate remediation, risk mitigation and organisational learning.

About you

You are a seasoned investigations or compliance leader with a strong international track record and the credibility to operate at the highest levels of an organisation.

You will bring:

  • An advanced degree in Law, Compliance, Ethics, Business or a related discipline.

  • Extensive experience in compliance, investigations or a closely related field within a complex, global organisation.

  • Proven leadership experience managing highly confidential, sensitive and high‑risk matters with professionalism, independence and sound judgement.

  • Deep knowledge of global regulatory frameworks relevant to investigations and whistleblowing.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and present clearly to Boards and committees.

  • Strong investigative capability, including interviewing, evidence analysis and structured case management.

  • Confidence operating across cultures and geographies, with strong ethical leadership and integrity at the core of your approach.

  • Fluency in English (additional languages are an advantage).
