The Global Director of Photography is the senior editorial leader responsible for shaping the future of Reuters photojournalism and elevating coverage across all regions and key global themes. This role combines editorial excellence and strategic innovation to ensure Reuters Pictures remains the fastest, most trusted, and most impactful source of photojournalism across news, sports, and entertainment.
About the Role:
The Global Director of Photography will champion standards and ethics, informing how the Trust Principles are upheld in a world saturated with mis- and dis-information. The individual will shape global visual aesthetics, while spearheading the adoption of new technologies and workflows to maintain Reuters’ competitive edge. The position will demand an understanding and respect of Reuters safety protocols.
The role will enhance coverage through strategic hiring, mentoring and career development. It will drive training programmes to develop photographic talent, while fostering an inclusive workplace.
The Director of Photography will also represent photography (alongside other stakeholders) in strategic discussions on C2PA and AI innovation, driving responsible integration in production workflows without compromising editorial integrity. It will ensure Reuters maintains a forward-looking, competitive fleet of cameras and equipment.
On top of this, the role will be a brand ambassador for Reuters Pictures internally and externally, working hand-in-hand with the Senior Editor of Wider Image and the Editor-in-Charge of photo production. It will represent Reuters at industry events, speaking engagements, and photo festivals to promote the brand and gather market insights. And it will champion Reuters’ editorial wins and innovations to clients and stakeholders.
This editorial leader will have a proven track record in high-calibre photojournalism, with a portfolio that includes award-winning work and extensive field experience. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of news photography, including breaking news, enterprise, and long-form visual storytelling. They will understand the interplay between excellent photography, videography and written narratives.
