Job Description
The Automation Cost Optimization Lead will drive strategic cost optimization across automation systems to enhance operational efficiency and deliver measurable business value. By partnering with cross-functional teams and external suppliers, they will implement innovative sourcing and cost-reduction strategies; aligning automation cost initiatives with organizational objectives, supporting scalable growth and continuous improvement.
As a seasoned Automation Cost Optimization Expert, you will drive strategic cost reductions in automation systems by partnering with machine builders and cross-functional teams. The role leverages physical drivers and innovative sourcing strategies to enhance operational efficiency and reduce total system costs.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Lead the evaluation of automation systems to identify and deliver high-impact cost-saving opportunities.
- Develop and implement scalable, cost-efficient automation solutions in collaboration with engineering and procurement teams.
- Negotiate optimal pricing and commercial terms with suppliers to maximise value for automation components.
- Conduct market research to anticipate industry trends and integrate emerging technologies for cost optimisation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
- Deliver clear, data-driven reports quantifying cost-saving initiatives and their impact on budgets and return on investment.
- Facilitate cross-functional alignment sessions to embed cost-reduction strategies into operational planning and execution.
- Track and analyse total cost of ownership, including direct and indirect cost drivers, to inform smarter decision-making and support business objectives.

Experience- What you will bring:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred but not required
- 8–10 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a strong emphasis on optimizing the cost and performance of automation equipment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation, procurement, or related fields, with a focus on cost reduction and value engineering.

Desirable Skills:
- Deep understanding of automation technologies, physical cost drivers, and proven cost optimization strategies.

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational and financial data to drive strategic cost-saving decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working across engineering, procurement, and operations teams.
- Proven track record in project management, including vendor coordination, milestone tracking, and qualification planning for automation initiatives.
- Experience leading successful cost-reduction programs in complex, multi-site environments.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, especially in identifying inefficiencies in automation setups.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical and financial insights to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
