VAI is seeking a full-time Glassware and Media Technician responsible for the daily execution of glassware processing, sterilization, and media preparation. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and the ability to support a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.  It is the staff’s responsibility to support laboratory operations by ensuring the timely processing of glassware and the preparation of laboratory media for scientific staff. This role is essential to maintaining efficient research workflows and requires a detail-oriented individual who can balance multiple priorities, adhere to strict safety protocols, and provide excellent service to research teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform daily glassware processing, including pickup, decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and delivery for laboratories across VAI.
  • Prepare laboratory media, manage quality control testing, and assist with updates to operating procedures.
  • Operate automated media plate pouring systems, (Integra MediaClave and MediaJet Vario) and perform manual plate preparation as needed.
  • Process biohazard waste daily while following all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE.
  • Manage liquid nitrogen dewar filling using automated systems in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, glass washers, balances, pH meters, and related systems and report any issues.
  • Provide guidance to research technicians and students on proper usage and procedures regarding shared equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs for glassware and media operations.
  • Provide excellent customer service and proactively adapt to evolving research needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Experience in laboratory support, sterile processing, or similar environment in a research or hospital setting is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting and data tracking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with research staff.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to assess research needs and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum of an associate degree in a scientific field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
