JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor oversees the development and implementation of window production. The Supervisor oversees the personnel assigned with the production department to ensure that the assigned work is produced in a timely fashion and procedures. This role directs the daily production activities such as labor scheduling, production planning, facility safety, equipment safety, and quality by performing the following duties either directly or through the team leads. The Supervisor promotes employee engagement in production and safety through continuous coaching and effective employee relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Comply with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling.
  • Interview new candidates, hire, train, and mentor department staff.
  • Provide leadership and maintain time and production records daily. 
  • Discuss and layout production flow.
  • Review, approve or modify production reports for manufacturing.
  • Improve manufacturing processes in conjunction with the operation manager and plant manager to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed by department staff.
  • Supervise production processes, and procedures for glass production staff to use and abide by.
  • Conduct various tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed window units.
  • Maintain and monitor the completion of all necessary records such as daily production and throughput, maintenance requests, accident reports, counseling records, and safety audits as assigned.
  • Attend daily production meetings to update other departments on job status.
  • Enforce all policies and procedures related to safety and housekeeping.
  • Inspect materials or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions. Take corrective action to remedy issues.
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances and take necessary actions to remedy within the scope of Production Lead duties.
  • Process employee timecards and monitor attendance. Discipline as required to ensure compliance.
  • Work with other supervisors or group leaders to rotate employees as necessary to meet production needs. 
  • Assess individual training needs, including cross-training and job rotation plans of production employees and works with a group leader to provide needed on-the-job training and coaching.
  • When necessary, the Manager may also provide hands-on process instruction.
  • Promote and support a safe work environment and safe work habits, including proper PPE.
  • Coach employees and promote teamwork among the group.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules daily.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of the product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the department.
  • Prepare and present communications to production employees and other members of management regarding daily expectations for production, quality, housekeeping, and other key measures as well as general information required to keep all employees informed.
  • Maintain the overall safety of employees in the assigned work area by reporting all hazards/issues.
  • Provide corrective action to address attendance, conduct, or performance issues with production employees.
  • Consistent at work and on time; Arrive at meetings and appointments on time; Commit to overtime when necessary to reach production schedule/goals.
  • Flexible work availability with the ability to work overtime and/or weekends as necessary.
  • Must be able to follow instructions from the Production Manager and other members of management.
  • Direct and coordinate work of glass cutting team to achieve the objective of meeting production schedules and delivery dates as committed to customers.

  • Organizational competencies and skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire production staff are meeting the standards.
  • Good rapport and communication skills with all levels in the organization.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
  • Understand units of measurement, read a tape measure.
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
  • Ability to read, follow, and understand work instructions from both written and verbal sources and basic writing skills in English
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Bilingual (English Spanish) preferred.

  EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • High School education is a minimum requirement.
  • 8+ years of supervisory in a manufacturing plant with preference of experience with building product manufacturing. 
  • Experience managing people and be an effective communicator.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Prolong sitting or in stationary position.
  • Wear all the required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection).
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to external and internal temperature fluctuations.
  • Exposure to sounds or noise levels may be uncomfortable.
  • Ability to stand for up to 12 hours performing shift work or in a stationary position.
  • Perform repetitive movements.
  • Bend or twist.
  • Wear all the required personal protective equipment.
  • Work at constant noise levels above 85 decibels.
  • Handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
