An exciting opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence UK as a Systems Support Engineer based at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire.

We are seeking someone with great inter-personal skills to join the Systems Support Team who oversee the on-site operation, update and maintenance of a complex suite of training simulation applications and services for the RAF’s Gladiator programme.

This is a fast-paced, customer-focussed role that supports the RAF in the delivery of operationally important team and collective training exercises that join geographically distributed air and ground simulation equipment together in a single, consistent, synthetic training environment. The role is based at RAF Waddington where virtual working will not be possible.

 

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Provides daily support for the Gladiator system to include liaison with MoD and civilian instructional staff in exercise planning and preparation, communicating system limitations

  • Initialises the system in the required configuration, perform system monitoring, rapid fault diagnosis in accordance with SLA’s, implement hotfixes and workarounds to ensure successful training outcomes and maximum system uptime

  • Performs deployment of configuration and software using a variety of deployment and source control tools

  • Efficiently and effectively address user issues

  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, change, reconfiguration and support to exercises, visits and demonstrations

  • Interrogate system, software and event logs, dump files and console outputs to identify and resolve bugs or faults existing within the software/system

  • Post operation tasks and system shutdown. Restoring environments to a predefined configuration in preparation for the next operational requirement of the capability

  • Work closely with third-party suppliers to resolve any issues or faults. As well as wider Boeing teams i.e. integration, testing and development

  • Maintain and review processes and documentation as required

  • Some occasional travel to remote sites may be required

Basic Requirements:

  • Must have or be willing to obtain SC security clearance, with potential to progress to DV clearance
  • Good communication skills and able to work well in a team
  • Basic problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Basic understanding of how to deploy and manage software on complex systems
  • Basic knowledge of networking, including common protocols and routing
  • Awareness of source control tools and how code is stored and managed
  • Customer-focused attitude with a positive, can-do approach
  • Willingness to work in a military environment and follow security rules
  • Commitment to working safely at all times
  • Applying good engineering practices and principles in daily work

Desired Requirements:

  • Experience supporting software and applications on Windows, Server, and Linux (RHEL) systems
  • Some experience with simulation systems, especially HLA & DIS protocols
  • Familiarity with synthetic training environments
  • Understanding of military training simulation systems and relevant standards
  • You will be a passionate engineer with a degree or equivalent qualification and 1+ years’ work experience in a relevant engineering or scientific field
