GIS Support for Mapping Rural Tourism (Student Wage)

Charlottesville, VA Part time

The Institute for Engagement & Negotiation (IEN) is hiring an SRA to support the Hidden Gems tourism initiative for Dickenson County, VA. The SRA will create a comprehensive, user-friendly digital map of local cultural, recreational, historical, and nature-based assets. The project involves compiling and cleaning spatial data, conducting basic field verification as needed, and designing an interactive GIS map suitable for public use, promotion, and long-term county maintenance.

Deliverables include a geodatabase of mapped assets, standardized attribute fields (e.g., site type, access, seasonality), and a web-ready map that can integrate with the County’s tourism and economic development platforms. The work will help elevate under-recognized destinations, support eco-tourism and heritage tourism, and provide a reusable GIS framework for future tourism and community mapping efforts.
