Major Responsibilities:

  • Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of daily work completion, directs resources and provides guidance to ensure work is completed accurately and timely. Acts as a resource for troubleshooting equipment pre and post procedures.
  • Acts as the primary resource for employees regarding the standards of high-level disinfection and endoscope reprocessing. This includes supporting training, developing and performing competencies, providing direction for daily operations, and giving input for annual performance reviews.
  • Supports completion of all safety and quality checks required in the high-level disinfection area, maintenance for the automatic endoscope reprocessors, and appropriate documentation for every flexible endoscope reprocessed.
  • Assists with human resource responsibilities, which may include interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, providing performance feedback, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale.
  • Able to complete and train others in all steps of manual and automated flexible endoscope reprocessing per standards and guidelines established.
  • Ensures proper care and management of high cost endoscopes to include handling, repairs, loaners, and notifications of equipment shortages that could impact operations.
  • Uses creativity to ensure process, procedures, and policies meet the requirements of high-level disinfection and the organization.
  • Assists with GI and pulmonary procedures including esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy (FFS), percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), bronchoscopies, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and endoscopic bronchial ultrasounds (EBUS).
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.


Requirements:

  • High School Graduate
  • 2 years of experience in Endoscope Reprocessing in procedural area and/or sterile processing department.
  • GI Technical Specialist (GTS) advanced certification issued by SGNA by completing the SGNA Associates Program needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) certification issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc (CBSPD) needs to be obtained within 6 months, and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
