Job Summary

This role is responsible for the effective planning, organization, and supervision of geotechnical and civil site services group in support of Transmission projects and facilities.  Provide leadership and technical direction to staff to assure sound decision making and all engineering is performed in accordance with good engineering judgment and local, state, and federal requirements. Assure appropriate training occurs within staff and provide a continual resource of knowledge to the company within areas of responsibility. Establish good communications and teamwork with key internal stakeholders, including Energy Delivery senior management, Station and Transmission Line Engineering Transmission Field Services, and environmental services and projects.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

  • Provide overall direction, management, and administration of the Civil/Geotechnical engineering staff, which includes geotechnical engineers and civil engineers, coordinators, and civil design staff.
  • Supervise performance, review, scheduling, cost control, QA/QC of group's work activities, and ensure staff is properly trained.
  • Ensure all work is completed in a safe, efficient, and economical manner.
  • Establish and maintain design basis for civil/geotechnical infrastructure and oversee the planning, design, engineering, review, and permitting of civil infrastructure shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures,  geotechnical reports, storm water controls, and other heavy equipment foundations.
  • Oversee the solution development and design of the unique, most challenging and largest projects requiring specialized geotechnical and civil site services.
  • Develop standard processes and best practices for use by the Engineering production teams in routine site and geotechnical work. 
  • Provide a system wide basis for approach to Civil Site and Geotechnical activities. 
  • Institute training, reviews and methods for QA/QC for work performed by production teams.
  • Provide support to production teams for geotechnical implications affecting site selection and line routing.
  • Responsible for common contracting and engineering processes for outsourced Geotechnical and Site Civil activities. 
  • Apply value added considerations to internal versus externally executed work.
  • Provide knowledge and guidance regarding geotechnical implications of construction methods. 
  • Support construction activities as needed. 
  • Coordinate emergency response for any failures involving civil/geotechnical infrastructure, including from external causes such as slope stability failures.

What We're Looking For:

Education requirements are listed below:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

  • Requires minimum ten years of post-Bachelor's experience in civil engineering. Professional experience must include at least nine years in geotechnical engineering associated with utility and industry infrastructure.
  • This experience must also include construction, permitting, inspection, and emergency action plan development.
  • Experience with geotechnical reports, shallow and deep foundation design, and civil/site engineering also required.

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:

  • PE License required.

Other:

M.S.C.E. preferred. Experience developing environmental permit applications and working with regulatory officials and regulators desired.

Compensation Range:

$136,539.00 - $177,503.00
