Join our Medical Genetics / Pediatrics team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families navigating genetic conditions. As a Genetic Counselor, you will provide compassionate, expert guidance to patients, helping them understand complex clinical and laboratory findings while supporting informed decision-making. You’ll collaborate closely with physicians, laboratory services, and community resources to ensure comprehensive, patient‑centered care.

Essential Functions

  • Provide comprehensive genetic counseling and testing, including interpreting clinical and laboratory findings and communicating results to patients and providers.
  • Research specific genetic disorders and translate complex clinical and genetic details into understandable information for patients and families.
  • Assess psychosocial needs, provide emotional support, and educate patients on risks, benefits, and implications of genetic procedures to ensure informed consent.
  • Coordinate referrals to community, state, or national resources as needed and maintain patient contact for appropriate follow‑up.
  • Prepare and deliver thorough written genetic consultation documentation for patients and/or physicians.
  • Collaborate directly with laboratory providers to order genetic or related tests, evaluate results, and arrange additional reference testing with non‑ACL labs when necessary.

Education, Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC)–accredited program by 6/2026
  • Licensure / Certification:
    • Active Candidate Status for ABGC board certification or Board Certified
  • Experience:
    • No prior experience required, but accepted.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal laws and standards related to genetic services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to navigate sensitive and stressful conversations with diplomacy and tact.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and comfort using standard software applications.
