What You Will Do:

Pratt & Whitney Aftermarket Operations has an exciting opportunity for a General Manager role located in Lansing, MI (AutoAir MRO). 

The site is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft components for the aftermarket business and employs 200 hourly employees and 75 salaried employees. The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of MRO operations and delivery, and is directly responsible for the organization’s Operations, Quality, Engineering, EHS, Continuous Improvement, Materials, Customer Service, and Facilities with supporting partnerships with Human Resources and Finance.  

Additionally, this role is responsible for maximizing profit through shop efficiencies and has responsibility for the entire operational unit across functional areas and will be accountable for budget, staffing, and operational results. This is a key leadership role for the facility that reports to the VP, North America Aftermarket Repair Operations.  Aftermarket operations includes 5 North America repair sites and our Strategy, Transformation and Technology organization. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • P&L Ownership: Plan and manage financial decisions by managing revenues, budgets, controlling costs, evaluating risks and making strategic decisions for the business in partnership with stakeholders.  Analyze business results using key performance metrics to determine financial health, efficiency, productivity, strengths and opportunities and make informed business decisions using data. 

  • Business Performance: Maximize site performance and profit by leveraging product portfolio, capabilities, customer needs and industry demands.  Analyze business results using key performance metrics and make operational decisions based upon a combination of data, trends and factors.  Key performance metrics include, but are not limited to sales, earnings before interest & tax (EBIT), on-time delivery (OTD), turnaround time (TAT), cost per hour (CPH), net inventory turns (NITO), capital expenditure (CAPEX), and market feedback analysis (MFA). 

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Plan and execute short and long-term strategy and operational direction.  Evolve product portfolio and technical capabilities in an agile and methodical approach that strengthens the site’s position for the future.  Expand capability and capacity to execute industrialization plans and to support shop forecasts and fleet demands.

  • People Leadership: Manage, lead, coach and empower a team of 6-8 senior functional leaders to drive business objectives, goals and performance. Develop and maintain positive relationship with the bargaining unit. Drive decision-making and critical thinking within team(s) to provide solutions to complex decisions and/or issues.  Promote learning and development and routinely evaluate organizational structure to maximize individual and team potential and business success.  Play a key role in talent development and succession planning initiatives to ensure a strong talent pipeline aligned with organizational needs. 

  • Safety & Health: Prioritize and ensure a safe, healthy and compliant workplace.  Report injuries and hazards appropriately.  Promote safety culture, safe work practices, wellbeing and situational awareness in the workplace.  Encourage employees to ask questions, raise concerns and be confident to speak up.  Enforce adherence to the environmental health & safety (EH&S) cardinal rules and all policies, procedures and regulations.           

  • Quality: Deliver safe, high-quality products and services by ensuring leadership accountability at all levels of the organization.  Encourage employees to ask questions, raise concerns and be confident to speak up.  Enforce adherence to the quality cardinal rules and all policies, procedures and regulations. 

  • Customer Service: Build and maintain favorable and ethical relationships with customers, vendors and partners.  Meet customer commitments, communicate timely and provide quality products back to customers.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Advanced degree and 12+ years of experience in Military, Manufacturing, Business Operations / Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Aerospace or Aftermarket industry; OR Bachelor’s degree and 14+ years of relevant industry experience

  • 6+ years of personnel management experience, ideally within a bargaining unit / union workforce environment.

  • Advanced business knowledge and strong financial, business and technical acumen

  • Experience leading P&L with cost, budget, project management and delivering financial performance.

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement tools (CORE/ACE/SixSigma, QCPC and RCCA).

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Degree in STEM field; Engineering, Supply Chain or Management preferred.

  • Operations experience in Aftermarket Aerospace or Overhaul and Repair (MRO) industry.

  • Proven ability to lead self-directed work teams across multiple functional disciplines.

  • Knowledge of Pratt & Whitney shop practices, quality standards, processes and procedures.

  • Knowledge of AS9100 and DOT/FAA regulations, ideally within Part 145 repair station

  • Experience using MS Office Suite, SAP ERP, Solumina MES and virtual meeting platforms (i.e. Zoom, MS Teams).

  • Excellent presentation, with ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, shop personnel and customers.

The salary range for this role is 186,200 USD - 353,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
