Job Summary:
The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment, requiring practical skill and knowledge in support of maintaining facilities.
Primary Duties

Assist in the hanging and installation of signage, pictures, and associated items.
Remove signage and provide the cleaning and removal of residue (e.g., glue, gel, etc.) as required.
Install or relocate furniture items, including footrests, chairs, mousepad, scooters or other requested items at designated workspaces for employee use by the start of the business day (6:30 AM) or at another such designated time provided by the Government.
Place office supplies (e.g., pens, paper, notebooks, etc.) up to 30 lbs. at designated locations throughout Census facilities.
Support facility customer service activities to include lockers, offices, and other secure areas designated by the Government.
Perform administrative duties to track facility support requests through Government provided resources.
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain module workstations/cubicle furniture procured from MillerKnoll, Allsteel, OFS, and/or Global Furniture lnc., after the assembly by the licensed installer and only after the warranty period of that assembly has lapsed.
Provide minor repairs to office, modular, and system furniture such as but not limited to tightening loose screws, correcting drawers off-track, adding doors, replacing parts, etc., in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
Reassemble daisy chained furniture to maintain operational functions and meet integrated use requirements provided by the Government, including the assembly and disassembly of conference room tables and/or chairs.
Provide moving services of assorted items including but not limited to boxes, crates, paper, assembled/disassembled furniture, chairs, appliances, audio-visual equipment, skids, and safes.
Operate powered forklifts, clamp trucks or other power equipment to load/unload materials as required.
Manually load or unload trucks, or other transporting devices; unpack, shelve, or place items in proper storage locations or transport goods and supplies by hand truck or cart to Census.
Utilize government furnished vehicles with Government provided driver to transport supplies, equipment and furniture to Census Bureau designated facilities within the 50 mile-radius of the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Report to supervisor any damaged racks, faulty equipment, or other safety hazard.
Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
Comply and coordinate with all dockmaster policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent required.
Prior experience providing maintenance and repairs of buildings preferred.
Forklift operator training preferred.
May be required to operate Government-provided powered industrial trucks, forklifts, clamp trucks, or other power equipment to move materials (equipment, furniture, etc.) and deliveries when required.
Driving experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, labels and numbers.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and divide.
Must be able to pass criminal and drug screening processes to meet current network and/or government legibility requirements that apply or become applicable to this position.
Supervision Received
The incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedure and receives detailed instructions. Work is checked frequently.
