General Maintenance Technician Intern

This position will be located in Lynchburg, Virginia.

    

YOUR ROLE

The General Maintenance Technician Intern is responsible for supporting the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of facilities, equipment, and grounds. Working under supervision, this role assists with routine inspections, basic repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and efficient environment. The technician helps identify maintenance needs, responds to service requests, and follows established procedures to address minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical issues. This program will begin in February/March 2026 and run through August 2026, with a possibility of extension into the fall semester.
 

What you will be doing

  • Perform routine inspections of buildings, equipment, and systems to identify potential issues.
  • Assist with basic repairs in areas such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and resolve facility issues.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and supplies are properly stored.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding completed tasks and outstanding issues.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic understanding of general maintenance, repair techniques, and hand tools.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina for lifting, standing, and performing manual labor.
     

Work Environment
The role may require occasional evening or weekend hours and involves exposure to varying weather conditions and physical activity.
