About The Position
The General Maintenance Technician I supports the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of facilities across the campus. This role performs general maintenance tasks, including repairs, installations, inspections, and preventative maintenance, to maintain safe, clean, and functional environments.
Working closely with the Manager of General Maintenance and the Facilities team, this position responds to maintenance requests, assists with troubleshooting equipment and building systems, and supports preparation for inspections. Work includes maintaining building systems, furniture, water features, tools, and equipment across indoor and outdoor spaces.
Success in this role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to manage tasks independently while collaborating with others. The Technician supports timely and effective maintenance operations and participates in an on-call rotation, responding to urgent issues as needed.

Physical Demands: In the work environment described, this role requires a high level of physical activity and sustained use of a computer and telephone for prolonged periods of time. The position requires effective verbal and written communication with others, good eye/hand coordination, and the ability to lift and transport up to 75 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This role regularly involves standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle or operate tools, controls, and equipment, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and communicating clearly with others. The position requires operation of standard maintenance equipment such as hand tools, power tools, ladders, forklifts, and aerial lifts (e.g., scissor or boom lifts). Duties include performing routine inspections, which may involve navigating tight or elevated spaces, exposure to hot and cold equipment, and occasionally working at heights. The ability to respond promptly and physically to urgent situations, including during off-hours as part of the on-call rotation, is essential.
Work Environment: Work is performed in both indoor office settings and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other facility systems areas. The noise level is low to moderate, however, operating certain equipment may result in higher noise levels. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety protocols. This position may involve working in confined spaces or environments with temperature fluctuations depending on the season or building system conditions. Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and evenings, may be necessary to support operational needs.
