Job Summary: The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution, Smithsonian Facilities, Office of Facilities Management and Reliability, Buliding Management Division. Smithsonian facilities is responsible for all Smithsonian faclities, many designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions each year. Major Duties:

  • The General Maintenance and Operations Supervisor serves under the general supervision of the Building Manager and performs a variety of duties in the zone. In this position, you will: Act as a principal advisor to the Zone Manager on maintenance operations involving the metals, electrical, paint, woodcraft, and HVAC Shop's responsibilities for painting, machining, carpentry, and masonry. Plans work schedules in various time frames, recognizing that while some of the routine work may be scheduled on a day-to-day basis, much of the work will necessitate scheduling weeks and months in advance. Plan, direct and monitor the work of subordinates with journeyman skills. Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of work schedules, methodologies and governing policies. Maintains close contact with customers, responding promptly to inquiries and period checks to determine degree of satisfaction.
