Job Summary: This vacancy is aimed at insourcing critical technical leadership skills. Roles may include being the technical expert for real-time mission operations in the Mission Control Center, mission systems development, testing, and integration, training and simulation, analysis, and other mission support functions essential to human spaceflight.

Major Duties:

  • Perform long term technical strategic planning and integration.
  • Develop consistent approaches on areas where performance limits are being approached and capture knowledge and lessons learned that could be applied in other programs.
  • Provide recommendations to the leadership team on areas of opportunity and long-range projection of resource needs for technical issue resolution, testing, and operations product management.
  • Develop mission, spacecraft, on-board systems, and/or training requirements necessary to ensure compatibility between mission objectives, vehicle capabilities, crew safety, and mission success.
  • Manage the cumulative effect of operational workarounds and use-as-is decisions for design and manufacturing issues and associated risks.
  • Coordinate and lead integration activities across multiple stakeholders to ensure alignment with mission objectives, policies, and Directorate priorities.
  • Develop/deliver technical briefings, reports, and recommendations to leadership supporting informed decision-making for real-time flight control of human space flight missions, ensuring internal products and processes are consistent between programs.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Developing and refining flight operations concepts necessary to accomplish mission objectives; Developing or refining system requirements, technical solutions, or business processes to improve system functionality and organizational effectiveness for space mission operations; Collaborating across organizations such as operations, engineering, safety, Program office, or commercial and international partners to evaluate operations concepts, technical needs, implement technical solutions, and recommend improvements based on performance trends or operational requirements.
