As a General Accountant, you play an important role in maintaining the financial accuracy and insights that help Whataburger operate with confidence and clarity. Your work supports informed decisions that keep our business running strong and growing responsibly. You make a difference by ensuring reliable financial data and analysis that leaders depend on. Day-to-Day Ingredients — Responsibilities

As a General Accountant, you will:

• Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
• Prepare and maintain financial models, dashboards, and recurring reports
• Monitor results against budget and forecast; investigate and explain variances
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning activities
• Ensure accuracy and consistency of financial data and reporting
• Prepare financial analysis and materials for leadership review
• Partner with cross‑functional teams to support business initiatives
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency and data quality

What You Bring to the Table — Required Experience

As a General Accountant, you must have: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
• Experience in financial analysis, accounting, or corporate finance
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data
• Experience with variance, trend, and performance analysis
• Proficiency in financial modeling, reporting, and data tools
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Clear written and verbal communication abilities

Extra Toppings — Desired Experience

As a General Accountant, we prefer you to have: 

• Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes
• Exposure to dashboard development or reporting automation
• Experience partnering cross‑functionally outside of Finance
• Familiarity with continuous process improvement initiatives

Where & How You’ll Work

This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross-functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
