About the Role
The Global Commodity Manager is responsible for owning the electronics commodity across the different programs. This person will partner interact intensively with the engineering team as well as the strategic electronics partners.
What You Will Do
- Develop a commodity technology roadmap aligning business requirements with supplier capabilities.
- Be familiar in the general electronics industry, the technology trend associates with the product development in the company.
- Responsible for AVL for commodity, supplier selection, qualification and contract negotiation
- Ensure the competitive sourcing environment leading to continuous improvement in the cost, service and technology.
- Work closely with Engineering to influence technical design decisions to meet customer expectations, technical capabilities, and business objectives.
- Interface with internal procurement team (China/JP/US/UK), Engineering (soft/hardware), Supply Chain, Marketing, Program Management to assess current and future sourcing requirements.
- Responsible for semi-annual executive business reviews of strategic sourcing plan that defines, among other things, market and business analysis, product roadmaps, supplier capabilities and annual / quarterly strategic business objectives
- Manage commodity spending and lead unit cost negotiation
- Responsible for ramping up readiness review with supplier and allocation/capacity planning
- Manage overall supplier relationships including supplier performance, capability development and cost.
- Maintain personal knowledge of market trends including rigorous analysis of market drivers, cost structures, technical improvements and competitive landscape.
- Periodic travel to supplier’s manufacturing sites, Japan & US.
- Support our ODM supplier initiatives including annual cost reductions, lead-time reductions, favorable payment terms, etc.
- The Commodity Manager is responsible for quality, delivery, cost efficiency and sustainability of the direct material commodity supply throughout the product lifecycle on a global level. The Commodity Manager reports to the GCM manager in China in sourcing and commodity management providing analytical and administrative support on a global or regional level (as assigned).
What You Need to Be Successful
- 5 plus years’ experience in high volume sourcing, manufacturing operations or engineering environment.
- Experience in IC related field is highly desirable
- 5 plus years direct experience in supplier / supply chain management, (not applicable for candidates who transfer from manufacturing or engineering)
- Global supply chain experience managing cross functional teams in a fast pace consumer electronics product company
- Extensive negotiation experience of large or multi-year supply agreements with global suppliers with a proven track record in cost reduction
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Fluent in English
- Exceptional ability to solve problems and coordinate with global team members
- Ability to be innovative in issues related to strategic sourcing, vendor relations and the associated measurement systems.
- Strong analytical skills (i.e. cost modeling, quotation analysis, supplier selection)
Bonus Points if You Have
- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, engineering or other relevant discipline - or equivalent
- Preferred: Master’s Degree and recognized qualification in Purchasing
- Fluency in additional languages, e.g. Japanese is an advantage
