Gas & Power Risk and Market Analyst

Main purpose

Trafigura Group is currently growing its power trading capabilities in short-term and intraday markets in addition to established Geneva power trading desk. Therefore, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced middle officer to join our Deals Desk team in Montevideo.

The Deals Desk is a middle office team providing market and risk analysis globally. The team’s primary responsibilities revolve around monitoring all elements of the risk and exposures related to commercial activity and report it directly to the Management Board on a daily basis.

As a Gas & Power Deals Desk Analyst, you will play a meaningful role in providing risk oversight to both new and established Latin American power and gas trading desk activities in Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia from our Montevideo office and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure all exposures and PnL are accurately captured and reported.

This role will be based in the Montevideo regional office.

Key responsibilities

  • Day to day reporting of physical and financial trading exposures and PnL across different entities.
  • Ensuring accurate and complete capture of trades and providing oversight and assistance for new product set-up and testing.
  • Ensuring management are kept informed of key risks and activities of the trading desk.
  • Collaboration with other deals desk colleagues across locations.
  • Communicate with relevant Trafigura departments to help set up and maintain control processes and produce necessary reports: traders, operations, compliance, risk, accounting

Required qualifications

  • Technical knowledge and experience in power and gas markets.
  • Knowledge of physical and financial power trade life cycles.
  • Familiar with working on third party ETRM systems.
  • Previous work experience working with Allegro systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of trade valuation concepts such as MtM, Accrual accounting.
  • Fluency in English, intermediate or equivalent to B2 is required.
  • Fluency in Spanish, advanced or equivalent to C2 is a must.
