Memorial Rehabilitation Institute provides highly specialized care ranging from complex multiple trauma, stroke and brain injury to physical and speech therapy. Inpatient care is offered at Memorial Regional Hospital South, with outpatient care available in five different locations. We also have a home health team and resources for long-term care at Memorial Manor, while also offering therapy for pediatric developmental diagnosis through Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Summary:

Visits patients and families to facilitate the process of healing using the positive power of play and humor. The position is involved with numerous patient activities, community events and serves as a part of the child life team. This position covers inpatient and outpatient areas of the children's hospital.

Responsibilities:

Develops specialized programs based on an understanding of the hospital environment, confidentiality requirements, the psychological behavior of patients and their families, and staff objectives.Fosters an environment of play though humor, creativity, imagination, and relaxation in an effort to ease anxieties associated with illness.Serves as a resource the community and involvement in community engagement projects/initiatives.Serves to diminish fears associated with hospitalization by transforming medical vocabulary, protocols, and accessories into a world of fun and imagination. Invites patients to express themselves through physiologically enhancing play.Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to determine patient needs.
